Wireless
The key aspect of Razer's high end creation is that it's a wireless mouse intended for gaming. Apparently, Razer has teamed up with other companies to create the 'gaming grade' wireless technology. We asked Razer who it had teamed up with but were told 'we chose to work with some of the technology leaders in their respective fields. Obviously we do not disclose these partners as these are highly confidential.'
Whether you opt for wired or wireless mode, the polling rate is 1ms/1000Hz . If the claim is true, clearly it's an impressive feat and we were keen to learn a bit about how Razer had managed but unfortunately our question was curbed. 'That’s company secret'.
Although technically the responsiveness won't be affected by the fact that you're using the mouse wirelessly there is a possibility that the signal interference will affect what your cursor is doing.
In compensation for this, Razer has developed an 'interference management system' they call Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS). Given the negative connotations overclockers will have with the words 'spread spectrum' this is perhaps an unfortunate choice of words for the technology. Eager to learn more nonetheless we asked Razor how it worked only be told 'Yet again, we can’t disclose more than the information at hand'.
Crack that sucker open, and tell us what they're using.
Unless razer is selling these in large enough quantities to warrant an ASIC, they're likely using some variety of off-the-shelf wireless transponder IC. I'd be interesting to know what.
The "Gaming Grade" thing is marketing BS, And DSSS is an established signal modulation technique. They certainly didn't come up with it (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct-sequence_spread_spectrum). On the other hands, it is fairly robust against interference. I wonder how much of their other claims are bunk.
I'd wager that "we chose to work with some of the technology leaders in their respective fields" probably means "we bought a generic Wireless PHY from one of the big IC manufacturers".
I purchased the Deathadder when it was first released as believed the reviews and thought the exorbitant cost of 60quid was worth it.
Sounds like they've fixed quite a few issues as mine sucked ass major.
1. The base wasn't flush so it was always scraping on the mousepad.
2. The thing overheated making my hand sweat, wierdest thing ever.
I would still be suffering with it but was stolen with my laptop which sucks but I've got a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 which is awesome, far better the Deathadder for me and half the price.
And now they have the Mamba, at 120quid!!!! I'd def want to try one for a good month before purchase, so I'll def not purchase it even at 60quids. I agree wireless is the way to go but not at that price. My money will be going towards a sidewinder X8, G9 though most likely a Logitech G7
That's Robert Krakoff. He's a ****ing genius mate - I've sat there and asked him questions before, and listening to his business expertise on understanding the gamer is lightyears ahead of most of the industry. It's why Razer has grown massively in such a few short years.
Wolfe - I would, but it would mean breaking it and I LOVE my Mamba too much :o

I do, but I've lost the receipt from PC World.

Not at all. I suspect it's bad build quality on Microsofts part, but I expected a Razer branded mouse to be well made.
but that means haveing to goto the fourms to get to it

i need an new gameing mouse the mx1100R i have got, its to slow goes to sleep to offen as well
Razer mice do seem to not last long as well, best mouse i ever had was the MS 2.0 mouse opticle (the base was all red and lit up red as well) i should maybe look at MS new mouse
It's such a great looking mouse, I've been eying it up for a while now but it's just too expensive. to justify. I'll stick with my DeathAdder for a while longer and see if the price drops.
I want this mouse! I wish they had a non-wireless version though. I really don't want the extra weight, hassle and expense. I own and use both a Copperhead and a Lachesis and absolutely love them but paying more than what I paid for both of them combined for a wireless mouse doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
I'm really hoping they take the 5600 DPI guts of the Mamba and package it in to the Lachesis (ambidexterity ftw!) shell, I'd definitely be interested in buying that. The jump from the 2000 DPI speed of the Copperhead to the 4000 DPI speed of the Lachesis was pretty nice, I'm really interested in seeing how well 5600 works.

I managed to break the left mouse button on my Microsoft mouse too.
The thing which confuses me about this mouse is that if the wireless is as good as they say it is, why do they need to transmit data down the USB cable when it is plugged in? This is almost as if they are saying it is on one hand but then admitting that it isn't on the other.
£120?
I've spent seven months agonising over whether to replace my 7-year old Microsoft intellimouse optical with a Logitech MX Revolution, but can't bring myself to spend £32 on a mouse. :/
I've had DeathAdder since release and i just love this mouse.
Tought that mamba is my next move but the 120£/€ is just too much for a mouse. 100€ is maby the max that i could ever pay but 120 is just crazy.
Maby i'll just stick to DeathAdder until the price is right or go and buy a Microsoft X8.
The Mamba does look very nice indeed, but the price is just way too much. Well above what any person of sound mind would be prepared to pay for what is, essentially, a mouse. Halve the price and it'll sell like steaming baked products.
Was there a secret compartment in the box that contained a picture signed by Lord Lucan of Redrum in Atlantis? Or maybe a vial of rocking horse poo?
I still love my G7. Just a shame the charger isn't as good as it should have been. This Mamba just seems a little to extravagent pricewise for me to even consider.
I love my G7, flick the switch on the bottom of the charger and you get fantastic charge times. If my G7 were to die today I personally would not mind shelling out for this. The G7 is hard to come by in Australia now and after using my brothers Death Adder for over a month now I have really become used to use that classic Razer shape which I used to hate.
BTW: Second page, last sentence,You spelt Razer with an "O" instead of an "E".
Ive had mine for 4 months now and its an awsum mouse I cannot say Ive had any problems with it far outways the logitech G9,the mamba sits perfectly in the hand being just the right shape. I have joint pain problems and cant use a mouse for long periods as a result with the mamba no such problems this mouse may be expensive but its worth every penny in my opinion and no I dont work for or get payment from razer for my comments lol
Had a mamba bout a year and I've used it till it broke (my own rough treatment to blame)
Yeah its expensive as hell but it is the best all round mouse you can buy.
Its small and comfortable enough to be used all day, it doesn't feel out of place browsing the web or in MS word. Yet its accurate and responsive as a gaming mouse can be wired or wireless. No wires is handy for media centre use where I'm not sat at the desk aswell.
Charging a battery when wired up is a good fix for the charging problem that a lot of wireless mice ignore. If I could charge a second battery in the dock while using one with the mouse in wireless mode like you could with the logitech G7 I'd call it feature perfect.
As for faults all I can mention are that wireless means if you drop it, it falls hard (see rough treatment above).
The rubber grips on either side are only held on by sticky gel pads that came loose with wear and heat. Though that's nothing a dab of glue couldn't fix.
Oh and if you ever want/need to open you mamba up, beware the screws can be stubborn and its very easy to strip the heads.
I've been looking for new mouse since the new baby monitor has been interfering with my G7 (otherwise awesome mouse) and the wired feature of this Mamba looks like it's won.
Might have to invest.

Arghh bad issues tonight, anyone know the cheapest place to get a band new Mamba? This site has it for £6,072.79 & that's with £607.28 off!

i dont know why its expensive in the uk
but i got a it at 120 dollars
I think people get too involved in the stats of these mice and make them selves believe they make a massive difference when they really don't.
Pair a logitech mx revolution and a good gaming surface and you can easily play any FPS etc out there with no noticable disadvantage what so ever!

My best investment so far.
All who can't afford it are not supposed to criticize it
