Bah and here I was hoping for something to break up the Asus / MSI / Gigabyte / DFI family. Nifty review though, cool looking motherboard but after reading some of the quirks of this board I'm quite happy with my P6T.

Hey Foxconn - The Prodigy Called, and they want their Album Art Back.

Goodreview though guys, very informative.
When you were overclocking, did you need to use the "Super-reset" button? and Did it work?

P2 - 'been poured over', or been pored over perhaps? Pouring anything over your mobo is generally not advised... :P

£275 for a motherboard? I think my next upgrade is a few more months away than it was already. I know it's par for the course for the top end boards, but it must be hurting the uptake of LGA1366 at least a bit to have such expensive motherboards.
(that's more than I spent on my graphics card).

mind you $285 is a bit more reasonable, oh what fun living in country with a buggered currency :(

Was thinking that myself and Richard said that most we will ever probably need will be 6gb,but its nice to have the option if you wanted to go for more.Thats a lot of money for a board though!

THE KLINGON EMPIRE!

By the time you want more, better DIMMS will be out and a newer Blood Rage anyway - they're releasing 10-a-penny these days.

Yeah, didn't Hynix say the other day that their new 40nm process will be good for 12GB DIMMs soon?

I guess now we know what really happened to that Asus M3A-H...!

I was under the impression that the 3 slots mean that the board wasn't as 'wide' as other Core-i7 boards and as such meant that it would have greater compatibility with smaller cases because you weren't going to lose memory slots behind/underneath your drive bays. (And also the aforementioned overclocking reasons)

anyway, its a i7 is a high end rigg, so if u build an i7 rigg its gonna be worth around lets say 1.5k?
if im paying 1.5k im not getting cheap low specs things, im getting the best,
and if in a lame future i need to add 6 more gigs to my ram, then i would love to do so
thats y for the same price, i CAN get any other cool i7 board, with gr8 specs

Sigh.. Wish we could get rid of Floppy and IDE ports :(

Good review though, I'll keep waiting for an i7 board..

I agree. What's the point? Anyone who forks down money to buy this board knows not to use them. At least I sure as hell wouldn't...

I was talking to my 6mo old boy while looking at the MB features. Whats the deal with that? And also only two SATA ports??? I keep going back to look at it. Am I missing something here?

Edit..........my head is down.... I read there was six but could not find them on the board. Crafty black covers! #17 I'm ok now, needed coffee just woke up.

actually, floppies are still widely used. For some, floppies are used to load raid drivers during XP install onto Raid Arrays. I am assuming that you are assuming that everyone is going Vista. Granted, this kind of board lends itself to Vista, but that is not the only OS out there.

I am still whining about the loss of the second PS2 port. hehe

You gotta move forward with the times eventually..

Compared to another extreme overclocking board like the Asus Rampage II Extreme, it's about ten percent slower performance in total overclock availability with the same hardware setup.

Isnt the rampage II a 775 board? , is that a typo or have i missed something?

well if anything it sure is pretty but I would like to see that Pot in action :)

The Rampage Extreme was LGA775. R2E is LGA1366

Hmm... shame. This was one of the boards i was looking at for my next build. Was expecting better considering.

Bring on the EVGA Classified!

Thanks for the nice review.

One thing, I do not understand. A price of roughly $300 is pretty standard for a high-end board nowadays, including waterblocks, fans and whatnot is no standard at all. So, why a value of 7/10? Compared to the competitors, it looks to me the value is quite a bit better, no?
