It'll probably be splittable you should be able to take half of it off. If that's not the case, then you could probably connect it with the extra 4 pins overhanging the connector.
But it means nothing. The fact that "RD580" means more to people than "Xpress 3200" (of course, it's GOT to be with an X) is a failing on the part of ATI. I mean, I know a fair bit but until you told me about "Xpress Routes" even I was non the wiser, so wtf is joe public gonna know!?

That is true, but only for the x1300 and x1600, and it's not just true for this board, it's simply the way ATI designed them. The higher level cards must have a master card, along with a regular card.

That won't work because you need a master card with X1800 and above at the moment. You can use X1600 and X1300 without the need for a master card, but then it's a bit of a waste spending so much on a motherboard when you're spending less than the price of the motherboard on each graphics card. That's why we didn't test connector-less CrossFire in this board. ;)
could you give it a try? try 2 different x1800`s in crossfire but not the master card? itt was supposed to be a feature of the board you see - that all x1000 series cards can work without a master
The X1600 and below are not powerful enough to saturate the x16/x8 buses so dont need the dongle, and hence, master card. But everything above wouldnt have enough manwidth I assume.
well , i`ve seen 2 asus X1900XT cards , both are the non crossfire version (white fan not the black fan on the crossfire version) running in crossfire mode. review on another website.
bigz - please try it -i think that it WILL work , and ati hust don`t want people knowing it will work and will buy the *expensive* master cards.
most of the first x1900 masters where white. thats where you could be getting this problem from. at least no i know why i never see any x1600 master cards
I don't know where you've heard about this weird rumour that two slave X1800's will work in CrossFire. I don't have a pair of X1800's, but I do have two X1900XTX's at the moment. I've installed them in the ASUS A8R32-MVP and literally nothing happens - it doesn't recognise the second card at all.
Both X1800 and X1900 use exactly the same compositing engine so that myth is not true.
It doesn't recognise the second card at all? Meaning that if you wanted to have two cards for 4 monitors, then you would have to get the Crossfire master card anyway, regardless of whether you need the compositing features or not?
I've been reading a few reviews off the New Egg sigth on this MB and 5 out of 6 say the thing has serious bios issues. I hope this is not some epidemic with these boards.

One thing I thought about when you pointed to the extreme overclocking capabilities was that it would have been interesting to know how far it actually is possible to push the FSB? It's a pretty important factor in overclocking anyway.
This does give an idea of it's possibilities though. In three out of the top-4 they've used the same board as reviewed here (and the fourth is based on RD580 but not named yet) way to go ATI I'd say! =]

As far as I know, yes. The early batch has some issues, but I've been assured that the newer boards are alright - I should have a new one in the labs when I get back from CEBIT.

That's not irregular with EVERY early board. Early BIOS' are notorious for being crap. It takes about 2 months before they iron out most of the bugs on nearly every single board released from every manufacturer.
Too bad Newegg's jacked up their prices, and never have the board... I guess I'll have to go somewhere else. I really want to try out one of these boards, I have a spanky Opty 165 that does 2.7 on air. :)
Update: This weekend Newegg had a sale for $195, so for a little over $200 I picked one of these up! Woohoo!
