It's an intresting post(Welcome to bit-tech btw), but to be honest, this isn't the case for most people. I've seen plenty of screens of people who've used dividers etc, for msot people, this board works fine. It seems to have some issues with X2's, but thats it for the most part.

Sorry if you think me cynical, but I've read alot about this board, I've talked to quite a few people who've personally used it, and none have had the above problems. Hope you get it sorted out though :)

im building a computer for the first time and so far my system is consisting of a couple of parts

asus a8n32 - deluxe/wifi
2X bfg nvidia 7800 gtx 512 oc
amd athlon64 fx-60
antec true power 2.0 TP-II 550 "550 watt power supply"
creative labs soundblaster X-fi fatality
2X western digital raptor 150gb

and its been killing me trying to find ram :( I simply need to know what is the fastest ram I can put in this system "no over clocking" i don't got the skizzles, but simply what is the fastest compatable ram, ocz, corsair, kingston? also any suggestions on cases would be appreiciated, im also looking for a pci card that'll let me record tv so that to :)

I just got one of those boards....you'll see what i did to it in my project log...once i'm done....hehe

To be honest, I wouldn't bother with onboard wifi, if you can fit wifi in between all your other cards, chances are it'll be higher quality.
Quote Tim S 12th January 2006, 23:53
I'd look at FX-60 if you're thinking about getting FX-57.
Quote johnmustrule 13th January 2006, 00:45
oooo thats a nice proccesor i 'll swich my list skr#$ the f-57 but it'll be compatable right?

ok would a linksys wifi card work with a x-fi and a tv tuner card would it all fit
Quote specofdust 13th January 2006, 00:55
Good point. I think Bigz would be more qualified to answer that question then me. While I have the board, I'm unsure of how it would be to use all three PCI slots, thoughts bigz? For sure it'd be impossible to do so if you had two graphics cards in there, or one with a dual slot cooler, but so long as your cooler was single slot I reckon it'd be possible.

If space is an issue, its possible you would in fact be better off going for the deluxe wifi version :)
Quote Tim S 13th January 2006, 01:26
you could have SLI running with two cards if they're single slotters - so long as you've got a fan blowing air over the components, it should all fit in fine. :)
Quote johnmustrule 13th January 2006, 01:40
i guess i'll go for the optional wifi to save on the linksys pci because I've hear that with two double slotted 7800 gtx it leaves 2 pci "x-fi and tuner" and that one slot near the cpu that's 4 the optional wifi that should all fit with proper cooling right
Quote specofdust 13th January 2006, 01:45
Well, does your graphics card take up two slots, or just one?

If you have only one, single slot, graphics card, then you should be able to fit three PCI cards(tuner, X-Fi, and wifi) onto the motherboard. But if you have a dual slot cooler on your graphics card, or have more then one graphics card, get the Wifi/Deluxe as opposed to the duluxe standard(stupid Asus and their stupid naming system).

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forums, the board was disappointing. I build alot of computers (for living and for friends and friends of the family and pretty much any other tom dick or harry that my folks might know lol :)
Like i said, when i put up that post i had those exact two builds, both ran amazing with stock values, the only unfortunate thing is the limiter. thats the only option asus has offered with any ram divider or ratio locker ect... im not quite sure what to do from this point as i can take the board back to my local store they said they would happily exchange the mobo as they couldnt figure out this issue... my problem is that its a watercooled box... alot of work to pull the mobo off to swap it out :(
Well the only appealing thing about this board was its supposed ability to run at full 16x speeds in sli mode (others reduced to 8x in sli). Im fairly sure ill be trading this board back for either the a8n sli premium or the dfi ut nf4. In either case ive had absolutely no luck with this board :( and i dont believe it desirves the asus stamp on it :)

Bigz? Any comments on this?

It's intresting the bamastar has had the issue twice, and I must confess I don't fully understand what he's referring to(still havn't got my mind around dividers and htt and fsb and all that jazz), but I would have thought the issue would have been picked up on on other forums that have used the board rather extensively, yet I've seen no complaints about dividers, just a few about voltage options.
Quote bamatstar 13th January 2006, 14:44
Well heres the actual problem im having with this board, so we will run two programs to quickly check to see results - Ai Boost (shows temp speed and fsb) CPUid
Okay start up this machine fully stock and check with either fsb will show as 800 (typically this will increase with your adjustments during oc'ing). Now try that again but this time go into bios under the cpu settings into memsettings into memlock and set it for 200 (200 = ddr400) and now check the fsb ( O_O fsb now dropped to 200)
this is where im stuck at so now... i am forced to run my poor poor samsung tccd ram at about 230mhz in order to keep my fsb speeds during overclock :((
Quote specofdust 13th January 2006, 15:30
Hmm, this obviously isn't a problem of noobyness, so it seems very strange. I feel bad saying this on bit-tech, but go here:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=80491

Goto the last page and let them know. Currently thats about the most knowledable user base with regards to the A8N32-SLI, and they should be able to help you, if anyone can. Sorry I can't help more :)
Quote bamatstar 13th January 2006, 15:50
that one cannot be used in comparison really can it? i mean he's running his ram at 166 (333)... Lets see that puppy put that ram back up to ddr400 then lets retry that oc. I can get my top specs as is.... 272 @11 with ram running at 197mhz (stable) but with ram forced at 200 i can get to about 230 fsb before it drops the ram to 166. ALSO need to mention id sure LOVE to see a screenshot of that machine with those settings runnin ai boost ... as it will indicate the actual bus speed... the fsb speed.... u can see on the cpuid test it DOES NOT include the actual front side bus speed for amd :) it does for intel btw :D
Quote specofdust 13th January 2006, 17:52
That entire threads huge, and is about the board in general, and many peoples experiences with it. Not just one guys. Goto the end of it, post your story, and hope for a solution.
Quote johnmustrule 14th January 2006, 05:12
ok if im not over clocking whats the fastest ram i can put on this mother board
Quote specofdust 14th January 2006, 05:30
Well, PC3200 would be the stuff you'd want for this if you're not intending on overclocking at all. Getting crucials standard PC3200 ram would be fine.
Quote johnmustrule 14th January 2006, 23:16
ok I want 2 gb of mem so for whatever reason should i get two 1 gb models or four 512 mb models and don't timings matter ? mabey i want to overclock a little hmm? and what a bout those 1gb models from crucial specialy buit for the a8n32 delux
Quote newb1e 16th January 2006, 13:18
I'd just like to say i have one of these mobo and have the following kit:

AMD X2 4800+ @ 2.75
2GB Corsair DDR XMS3500LL Pro
2 x 7800GTX 512 XFX XXX @ 580/1730
Scythe Ninja

whats good?: it's a rock solid overclocker
whats bad?: it was a real squeeze to get my aftermarket hs on, there is little room around the cpu. I have 2 dual slot cards and hence no more pci slots - but hey the cards are worth it.
Quote bamatstar 16th January 2006, 16:00
newb13 care to post some screenies PLEASE include screenies of ur rams mhz and ur boards fsb (use aiboost and cpuid) cpuid will NOT show a fsb rate will only show ur rams mhz aiboost will indicate ur actual fsb speed ( please include the scrrenies from ur machine while its oc'd ) P.S. MUST see the actual fsb speed please
Quote newb1e 17th January 2006, 07:43
i'm at work now, will post screenies if you need them - but i can tell you i dont use that AI crap, this is manually oc'd and prime stable. The FSB is set to 250 with a multiplier of 11. Memory is on a divider 166, but enables me to run at cas 2.0 T1. If I wanted to run the memory 1-1, then i have to adjust the cas to 2.5 to get stability. So 2750, an idle temp of 46c and a stressed high temp of 56c. Not bad for air.
Quote hitman012 17th January 2006, 08:17
It'd probably be faster for you to run a high FSB with slacker timings (2.5 isn't that bad) as you will benefit from the increased memory bandwidth.

Post a topic in Hardware and Overclocking if you have questions like this or, even better, do a forum search. There's a wealth of information available on this issue :)

are there any other doual x16 motherboards out there? the PCI slot layout is bugging me cuz i wanna pack an x-fi card in with two double slotted bfg 7800 512's and eveyone's saying that's not possible even though there's two PCI slots right between the x16 slots so woulden't one be in the clear?
