Can anyone say if this has a better image quality than the Dell 2007?

It's between these two for me, and the Samsung is winning only because of the component input.

Can anyone comment on Xbox 360 usage on either screen?

Ta,

This Samsung is in a different league to the Dell screens. :)

A different league? That's some statement, how much commission do you get for every sale? ;)

Best 20" around then I assume?

Nah, I am buying one of these Samsung's for my home PC. That's how good I think it is - I'm sure if Brett wasn't busy in Las Vegas, he'd weigh in and tell you what he thinks of his too.

It's a 21" monitor, but I've not seen anything in the 1680x1050 screen size bracket (20, 21, 22 inch) that's come close to it in terms of colour quality thus far.

You've sold me ;)

Slightly off topic I've just been using an Apple Cinema Display 23, oh boy!

EDIT

I'm planning to wallmount this, it looks like it would sit quite proud of the wall though?

EDIT #2

I can get the Dell 2007 for £100 less, still worth the extra?

ANSWER: HELL YES.

I love mine. TBH, I will be hard pressed to ever buy another display that's not a Samsung, now that I've had this one and have seen what they'll have out by the next time I buy one (in quite a few years).

There are very few things I am so convinced of as to become brand loyal, but this display has truly been a joy to have on my desk. Highly recommended, and it's worth well more than 100 quid more than the Dell.

I received mine today and I am now in love :o absolutely fantastic.

And the stand adjustment! you really have to see it to apreciate it dont you ? (for me it was trying to plug the DVI in to the bottom of the rear panel .. first it dawned on me I could turn it .. then that I could pan it, so I end up with a port staring me in the face sitting at my desk :D )

Thanks.

Any chance of some pictures of it in action?

Maybe, not right at this moment unfortunately, I dont own a digital camera myself and am unfamiliar with the workings of my dad's (plus he's out) but I'l think about it.

Don't worry about it :)

EDIT

I prefer the look of the Dell, how does the Samsung look in the flesh?
Bladestorm 12th January 2007, 20:34 Quote
Well you have a big white box that mimics the sun and .. er .. I can't really see the rest of it most of the time

Joking .. well, half joking anyway its mostly just a thin silver rim that I really am not looking at and can't see too much of much of the time, can't really complain about it :)

Its personal opinion of course, but I actually think I care about the stands functionality a lot more than the appearance.

I think the stand can be described as thus :

Just under 360* of easy spin (there is a point where it stops and has to go the other way)
90+ degrees of pan (can turn the panel on its end for a highscreen instead of a wide one)
Must be aproaching a foot of vertical adjustment (actually slides up/down, not just a bit that "levers" upwards)
a fair bit of tilt (I find I only need it fairly flat so haven't tried too much, but would probably go 30* or more each way)

I think at the end of the day Dell design up to a quality of appearance, then try and get as much image quality and functionality in as the budget allows, whereas samsung tend to design up to an image quality and level of functionality and then try and smooth off the looks, with the price landing wherever it may (within reason anyway)

Ahem probably after all my rambling I could just say "its not ugly anyhow" :D

Thanks for the feedback, it seems quite a few people have this screen which is a pretty good indication of how good it is :)

The stand does not concern me as I will be wall mounting it.

Hoping someone whom also owns this monitor can help. I am totally unable to keep the monitor tilted backwards, it just flops back to being totally vertical. Have I a broken stand? Surely one can tilt it backwards and it stays at that particular angle? I've had agents for Samsung tell me this is normal and it's not meant to fix itself at a tilted angle, but many product photo's I've seen on the net show otherwise!

thanks for your review
I'll go to buy a new one...

Was a faulty stand and Samsung finally replaced it.

'amytis', doubt you can still get this model any more. Discontinued from what I've seen. I'm very happy with it. Crisp, clear and business-like in appearance (matt black). I like and it'll be a keeper for many years 2 come.
