I suspect they want to offer vanilla 1070/1080 performance levels for $100 less.

..I'd be very tempted to go for a card that offered 1070/1080 performance for £299/£399 respectively or even better, forces Nvidia to drop their prices again.

But yeah, £800 is a lot.
