Conclusion

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided certainly doesn't hold back on pushing GPUs to their limits. It's a pretty tough game to run, even at 1080p, but it does look pretty awesome too. While driver updates and the DirectX 12 patch could always shake things up, there are a few things we can take away right now.

At 1080p, the RX 480 looks to be the best option. Even the 4GB SKU can handle 'Ultra' settings without dipping below 30fps, and next to competing Nvidia cards it clearly has an edge. This is a game that falls under AMD's Gaming Evolved program, so it's perhaps not surprising to see AMD leading out of the gate. Nonetheless, if you've been holding off for an upgrade for Deus Ex and, like most people, game at 1080p, the RX 480 is pretty easy to recommend. If you can find the 4GB SKU, it's a real bargain, but this is a memory heavy game and future titles are likely to follow this trend, so the 8GB one may be a safer bet in the long run.

As we move up to 1440p, AMD is less competitive, simply by way of not having anything to really compete with any of the top three Pascal GPUs from Nvidia. You can get some good deals on outgoing AMD cards, and the RX 480 still holds up relatively well at lower detail settings, but really a GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 is going to be your best bet for playing with the settings turned up.

As for 4K, you're really just going to have to throw everything you can at it if you really want to play at this high a resolution. A GTX 1080 or Titan X are your only realistic options right now, and even then you'll still only be hovering around 30fps and will need to add another card into the mix to get smoother. Still, that's to be expected from a brand new AAA release - we're still a good few years away from 4K being a viable resolution to game at for anyone but a tiny niche.
