The SKU that will land you a cooler that IS NOT THE SAME is HD-477A-YDLC

As for stock, we've since learned that these cards (HD 4770's in general) are in very short supply although it was in stock when we wrote the article. You'll just have to keep your eyes open but we'll report back if we hear anything.
Not sure if this is what you meant, but the HD-477A-YDFC is indeed the card with the "original" dual-slot blower design instead of the radial heatsink that all the other cards have. The HD-477A-YDLC is the one with "new" reference design.

In any case, the YDFC is the part number to get, and I saw them on the shelves at Fry's here in California.

Lucky you can find stock in US. This card is almost non-existant in UK now. If it is still available, its sold by dodgy sellers which I am a bit affraid to buy from. So I wait anxiously for the next "what should I buy" issue if bit-tech know where to buy this card

According to XFX, the cooler featured in the article is their 'new' design which offers better cooling. The YDLC design which just blows air onto the PCB is their original design and is the one pictured on many e-tailers sites at the moment but again according to XFX, these images will be updated when stock of the YDFC and YDF7 arrives.

In the end of the article you mentioned that the GTS 250 spoils the ATI 4770. Now would you recommend the GTS 250 over the ATI then?

I found a: Novatech GeForce GTS 250 SLI 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI PCI-Express - Retail with PhysX, CUDA & 3D Stereo
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?nov-250
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?asu-gts250
for £86 (incl VAT) but I have never heard of this Novatech before. I alsoi have no idea what is the physX, cuda & 3d stereo (on a graphic card?). There is an Asus for the same price as well. Not sure how much shipping & handling will add up to the amount.

Prices change from day to day at the moment in the mid range so it really depends on what prices you find things retailing for. The GTS 250 rules the roost in Crysis, Fallout 3 and COD WaW, so if you can find it for less than £90 in a deal, it's worth considering. The HD 4770 runs very cool and is just as fast if not faster in other games, especially in Far Cry 2 and might save you £10-15 (if you can find one in stock).

I think next what should buy hardware should focus on the supplies. Right now, I have ordered a 4770 which was available at time of ordering but finished when they processed my order. So basically, I'm on a waiting list. CCL computers say they will get a batch of 10 very soon, and I suspect that most have already been snapped up and waiting for CCL to deliver them. Looks like will get the 4770 next week.

No worries, thought it was me being a spaz! :D Hopefully they'll get it in stock soon for you - worth waiting for! It is a shame stock is so limited as AMD have hit a real sweet spot.

Help me find stock:D PM me if you know some. Maybe Somali pirates released a tanker full of 4770's. I want to finish building my affordable PC using your guideliness badly. Right now its just unusable junk piling at the corner. I would like a cool card and I think the 4770 runs using less power as well, which is a bonus to me.

I've canceled my order with CCL. 10 days, and talking to their support team, they have no idea when they will get 4770's in stock. The card was 10 in 2-3 working days now its 18 in 20-21 working days. In other words, they have no clue. No one has a clue about when will you ever get these cards back. Hopefully ATI releases 4790 or something soon to replace the non-existant 4770.

I've had nothing but problems from 2 separate XFX 4770's I recieved over the last 4 weeks from Newegg. Both cards have refused to give me a Windows screen AFTER booting into bios.

Machine:
Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3LR MB
Intel Q9400 cpu
Noctua NHU-12P Cooler
4 gigs of Kingston PC3 10600 Ram
Soundblaster XFI card (PCI-E)
HDD is a new WD 750
OS is XP Pro/32bit (I think), with SP3 installed (plus ALL current updates)
PS is an Antec True Power 550 (green version)
CD is Lite-on 48X
Monitor: Proview 19" VGA type/using DVI adapter from XFX
Video Card: XFX 4770 SKU: HD-477A-YDFC Version: C-1

Can anyone look at this system profile and see any reason why both of these cards refuse to give me a Windows screen?

Additional info:

I know that the slot is good because I bought an XFX 4350 to test it, and that card works fine. I installed the drivers for that card off the XFX disk that came with it, so it seems to me that those drivers should allow the 4770 to function at some level prior to installing its drivers.

The fan on the card is working.

Power for the card is via HDD-PCI-E separate rail source from PS.

Can someone tell me what I'm missing? I can't believe that Newegg would send me two bad cards in a row. The odds of that are unbelievable.

Thanks in advance for any help I find here. Marius-Mark
