How much can I get for a kidney on the open market?
Tim S 20th October 2005, 12:09 Quote
You should be able to get £365 for one if you go to the right place at the right time. ;)
Nexxo 20th October 2005, 12:09 Quote
Not enough. The market is already flooded with organs from geeks wanting to buy this card. :p
specofdust 20th October 2005, 12:11 Quote
The worst bit is, finding a place to sell them, I tried about 15 different Ebays and not a single one had any kidneys for sale, the closest thing they had was a model kidney, stupid fleabay.
Nexxo 20th October 2005, 12:51 Quote
Wrong site. You should be browsing Organbay. :p

Kidneys are a dime a dozen right now...I wonder how I can fare with only one lung...

How much does a somewhat second-hand appendix go for mate?

Better not be much - I've had mine out :p

I have a kidney, extreme edition. £400 at eorganbuyer.com

Ok, this is turning to a weird thread here...
Nexxo 20th October 2005, 15:57 Quote
Yeah, but I hear that the Kidney v1.2 Extreme Edition has some pipeline issues that make it incompatible with Bladder v0.5 and up...

Unless you re-flash your BIOS with the new drivers...
Shadowed_fury 20th October 2005, 15:59 Quote
Lucky for me then Nexxo.
I've got newer versions than a few of you guys.

You're going to need to think lower, there are some sterile geeks walking around after some LN2 overclocking incidents.

Great cards and review, but I can't seem to figure out what those advanced AA (TMS, TSS) setting are and how the heck you would turn them on. Or are those ONLY on the 7-series (I'm on my 6600gt machine which may have something to do with it...)

Yeah, those are the ones that transparency-super-sample or something like that, it's the stuff that makes the insides of transparent textures look much, much nicer. It's a 7xxx series update, though ATI users have had it for a while.

I think it's just plain sexy. Go ahead and start selling yourselves.

I can't recommend the XFX one enough... I'm so glad I paid the extra. If you can cool it, this thing just keeps on clocking... even if you can't, 520+ MHz on the stock cooler doesn't really bother it. I can only speak for mine of course, but I suspect they've selected the chips and RAM that can be overclocked, as it's supplied with with quite a high overclock above a stock 7800 anyway. That's what you're paying for, and it shows.

We tried to overclock the core on its own, but found that we were stuck at 499MHz as the maximum core speed that would pass NVIDIA's internal driver test. However, we experienced visible artefacts on screen at anything above 495MHz when the memory was clocked at 1355MHz.

You got a bad one then... mine's happily sitting at 540MHz/1400MHz... not fussed. Watercooled, yes, but I had it at 520 on air.

Great review as always.

With watercooling being pretty much mainstream now, it would be great if you could buy the cards without stock coolers? that Leadtek cooler is such coolers must bump the price up by about £20-30.

Only enthusiasts will opt for these cards. It would be nice for the manufacturers to offer this to the enthusiast market, Gainward did this briefly with Innovatek I think (aint seen it done since...i should probably shut up).

With Gainward Europe boss, Wolfram Tismer, moving to eVGA recently, he has taken the innovatek deal with him. Not sure if Gainward will continue with it, but eVGA have already announced a card, and plan to enter the UK market aggressively.

BFGTech have also released a 7800GT with waterblock.

I got msi fx5900xt in mid summer of 2004. I still can play quake 4 on medium settings (advance settings no AA, no VS, other options YES) at 15-50FPS with much flunctuation depending on a Single Player level. Multiplayer is 55FPS Average. So I can still get the feel of the game.

So if I would get the 7800GTX now, I think I would manage to stick it with it for like 3 years =) $500/3 = $167 per year.

why cant you just post the avg FPS from each game, 'playable setting' is so vague... some people think 30 to 40 fps is enough, others want 80 fps for their multiplayer experience... If you'd just post the fps, we can figure it out ourselves.

Several readers were incredibly confused by our fps graphs as there were different resolutions and settings being used on them. If you actually read the text, we discuss smoothness and other such things... also, read our editorial that was posted today - it explains why we do things the way we do them.

There are frame rates posted on page 10 of this review too...
