Just a quick heads up that the overclock speed for the HIS cards core is missing, reading through the overclocking bit again it suggests that the core reached 570, but doesnt actually put the figure to it.

oops, it did reach 570 core, thanks for pointing that out - I'll correct it now.

Bigz can you remember what the temps were like on the powercolor core at 590?

Do you think the R480 core with a arctic cooling silencer on would go any further?

Also do you know if there are any possibilities to mod these cards to unlock the disabled pipelines? Obviously these definately have faulty pipes, but it cant be all of them!

it was 80 degrees - I'm not sure about modding them in all honesty.

There's definitely more in the core on the PowerColor but it may be that I've got one that overclocks exceedingly well. I suspect that 570-590 is a reasonably average overclock for R480/R423 with an Arctic Cooler.

It's fine at stock, just under load at 590 core was 80 degrees - it's fine and was completely stable.

update:

I've just found this video card in stock: £122.95 from PCNextDay: http://www.pcnextday.co.uk/product_detail.asp?stype=5&productcode=1532-1120&group=PCENV&pgroup=VID

We'll keep an eye and see whether the HIS X800GTO iTurbo comes in to stock there too.

seems you have to go for gto2 if you want to use all 16 pipes

The updated feature set of a GTO2 over a GT0 is

The memory is faster at 1.6ns
The chip is overclockable (from 12-16 pipes)

Well I’m sure it’s a great 12 pipe card and it can probably be OCed a bit. I’d much prefer the Sapphire X800GTO2 though. I have yet to hear from an X800GTO2 owner who couldn’t unlock to a total of 16 pipes. So far it really does seem to be a 100% success rate and some seem to OC beyond X850XT PE spec but all seem to hit X850XT spec at least.
