Shame it hasn't been future-proofed with USB 3.0 ports as opposed to USB 2.0 ones.

Its interesting to look at the alternatives to this case.

Now thats insane, £342 for the Lian Li X2000 which is the only other case that really grabbed me as a great monolithic elite high end case. From what I understand of the 800D review the case is great but needs a fix for the air intake which could be done by with a bit of DIY, or we can wait for a soild side pannel which could include a suitable air vent? Dependant on if Corsair provide that.

Can't CPC put the case through the case temp testing box with infrared air flow like before? And fully load the drive bays etc and see if the air intake really does need attention?

Your saying there is an issue with the HDD air intake but is there? how do you know the air flow is limited or lacking, did you stress test it?

This case needs a PROPER review with PROPER answers about these points with temps.

Correct?

Meh. I'll wait for the review, but at this price I can't imagine myself buying anything other than an ATCS 840.
Evildead666 27th July 2009, 14:37 Quote
Very nice look, I like the Matte black finish.
Don't like the side Window too much.

All the air intakes seem to come from the bottom of the case, just like a vacuum cleaner. No and No.
I don't mind front intakes as long as they are unlit. No bling LED's....

Its a shame its too expensive for very little innovation.

That looks pretty nice I must say. Not a big fan of the side panel but it's not hard to cut your own and the qualms with the HDD cooling could be easily rectified with some modding ;).

Yes but not every one wants to get involved in that? Im pretty decent with tools but I dont know If I want to start cutting into case when it already should be how it needs to be.

Correct?

It's a PREVIEW

Please READ THE ARTICLE.

We will review it fully in time but these are our first impressions without actually having built anything into it. I received the case Friday afternoon.

USB 3.0 won't be around for a long while and certainly not from front panel ports. There is no available hardware to buy that can accommodate it.

Specifically it's ABS steel - it's thicker and costs more. Corsair doesn't really have the company infrastructure to do this on scale, yet, so I assume that's why it costs more.

There will be a solid side panel available.

Why do you come here if you don't want it to be picked apart? Should I just gloss over it and call it awesome? :P The plastic covers are a feature of the design and airflow and they are two paragraphs in 2000 words over four pages. Other companies manage to do adequate airflow without using flimsy plastic that falls out.

Nail on the head ;) I personally think the whole airflow design will be not wonderful, but Corsair disagree. We'll see when we come to review it.

not to be overly critical or anything, and i was actually looking forward to reading this review... but was the proof reader off with swine flu when this was approved?

PM me or anyone on the staff with what you find.

£225? No thanks. I'll order my HAF 932 today.
SlowMotionSuicide 27th July 2009, 15:46 Quote
A bit meh, IMHO. Considering all the hype this thing has got in multiple forums, I was expecting a case to end all cases.

That's it exactly. ;) It'll make your reviewing system a lot easier, too! A few pictures (that can probably be obtained from the press pack) and then write "This sucks!" or "Awesomesauce" and then go spend the rest of the day playing games. :D

For the price, delays and attention to detail on other areas... that bit seems like an oversight.

...

I do love the fact that this case is heavy. It's not like once it's built I'd be LANing with it anyway. ;) Although it would be good weight training. :D

D

I wouldn't say there are delays, and the price was always ~200 mark even back in CeBit, however compared to the generally excellent quality of the rest of the case it does seem like a compromise on what is a premium product. It doesn't exist in a TJ07 and 840. That said, I do like the Obsidian 800D quite a lot, even despite Corsair PR chewing my ear off.

I understand where your coming from but in today's day and age it is very hard to find something that you are 100% happy with and that doesn't just go for computer gear. Having to make the side panel yourself is an inconvenience and can be quite time consuming/costly depending how you go about it. I would prefer if they sold it with a solid panel and with a windowed option (like Thermaltake do), at least that way you have the choice.

The complete matt black look is ace. The stealth colour alone is tempting.

However, overall, I wouldn't get this case due to the strange airflow layout:

Intakes on the bottom ? For intaking maximum carpets via the black hole suction ?

only 4 hard drive bays. Too many optical drive bays. Side internal fan for hard drive bay ? Why not just have the front of the case as an air grill design ?

Air exhaust grill on top of case to invite an accidental spillage of a glass of drink with the help of gravity to the black hole's expensive internal components. I would have preferred a larger exhaust at the rear or even two or 3 fans at the rear.

It's good to see Corsiar in the game of case designing. Especially with their minimal designs. But this one is let down by the airflow design; plastic front; steel instead of aluminium; asymmetrical side window; and not enough flexibility of drive bay configuratons at the front. However, in terms of looks, this is one of the nicest looking cases on the market..

Ok id like to ask a question here..., since this case is starting to shape up to NOT be the "the case of cases"....

What today currently is the high performance case of cases? is it the
Silverstone TJ07B-W V2? a Lian Li offering?

Have any of you guys seen the Cosmos pure is a black cosmos s from what I can figure out.

Don't put your case on the carpet?

Because it would absoloutely destroy the looks.

Don't put your drinks on top of your PC.

Besides, that spot is meant for a triple watercooling rad so i don't see how it could go on the back. Certainly couldn't have been on the bottom because then you'd be back at the carpet problem.

I agree about the front panel though, i thought it was going to be real brushed aluminium.
rainbowbridge 27th July 2009, 17:27 Quote
You could put a short strip of wood down on the floor area you are considering putting the case?

Or some thing similar to this
DragunovHUN 27th July 2009, 17:32 Quote
Yeah something like that, or a sheet of PVC, or plexi or whatever.
Bindibadgi 27th July 2009, 17:35 Quote
I made a correction to the article: It's a 3mm brushed aluminium front facia (mounted on plastic.)
bobwya 27th July 2009, 17:51 Quote
Wrong metal (needs to be ALU at that price). Needs a 4 way rad. mount and more room in the roof for the rad. - then I am sold!! As it is this case is big, HEAVY FAIL....

I do not understand why everyone wants aluminium - if you need a light case you are looking at the wrong case. Its better to have a case that wont fall over in the wind.

Yeah, because everyone loves a bit of outdoor gaming.

Thanks for fixing that.

I'm the Case & Cooling Product Manager - my name is George. Since Bit-Tech was the first guy up with a preview, I'll be checking these forums to answer some questions for you guys for the next few hours (and maybe on and off during the week) provided it's okay with the Mods/Admins.

If you guys have any questions let me know.
