One thing I think when it cones to marking the looks of it, I think that it comes to personnel preference. Example I think the G9x is the ugliest mouse I have ever seen, but is it a good mouse? Most definitely and awesome setup as well.

I'm really not sure what vast advances you are talking about, care to explain?!
Hey look at me I'm a GAMING mouse for GAMERS. Come and look at my LIGHTS you GAMERS. You're a GAMER right? You need LIGHTS and MESH and BLING because you're a GAMER and you like to play GAMES so need a mouse with LIGHTS designed for GAMERS just like you!
WEIGHTS! Don't forget my WEIGHTS, they're underneath... take a look... but mind my MESH and my LIGHTS! WEIGHTS are for real GAMERS who like to GAME and GAME LARGE!
And because you're a GAMER I've got some really GAMERTASTIC software to go me. It's got a real GAMER feel to it with a GAMER USER INTERFACE. It's got a GAMER FONT and GAMER SLIDERS and RED! Which is the colour of blood you know, and GAMERS like blood so that's cool right?

The lights are actually quite useful when you're playing at night/at a LAN.
Also mesh can be useful if you're of the sweety palm persuasion.
As for the rest of it, I don't really care how extreme the marketing is I just want a comfortable mouse that can be do what my Habu can do. This would fit the bill if I was going budget I suppose.
Being able to change the dpi on the fly is also very handy in photoshop and the extra buttons are handy for web surfing and general computer use. And i've not seen any optical mice yet that doesn't have at least one light
Had the original Sentinal Advance mouse and while it was very good the only downfall to it for me was the side buttons that you use, with your thumb as they were not really comfortable to me.
I will stick to my MS Sidewinder Mouse as the side buttons are far more comfortable to use.

All together:
GAMER GAMER GAMER GAMER!
Chant it with me!
GAMER GAMER GAmer... gamer...
Anyone? Anyone?
Just me?
You forgot about the GAMER name!
STORM, because your GAMING will be a STORM of DESTRUCTION with this GAMER mouse.
SENTINEL, because you, the GAMER, stand at the front of a LEGION OF GAMERS scouting the way through FORESTS OF BATTLE.
ADVANCE, because what kind of PLEBIAN NON-GAMER would use a NON-advanced product?
II, because there's two. Also, GAMER!
The only thing it's missing is the letter X. Eagerly awaiting the third revision, hopefully it will include this.

Amen. Ridiculous marketing guff... except I did like the weight tuning on my G5. Now using a G400 which is far more sensible and probably my favourite mouse to date.

In regards to several posts above... I have had my Logitech G500 for maybe 2 years now? Shortly after release whenever that was anyway, and while I personally think it is one of the nicest looking and feature loaded mice around I also have to admit that I do not use all the buttons or features even when gaming. But it is nice to know that my mouse is capable above and beyond my use of it today, which means that should I come to 'need' more from it, it will surely be up to the job.
As for the DPI comments my G500 is profiled to 1800, 3000 and 4000 and it is nice to be able to switch use during games for example without resorting to changing the options. Battlefield gamers will agree with this as many use different DPI settings depending on whether they are on foot or in various vehicles.
Finally, while it is all very well doing a mouse round up and comparison of the latest gaming mice, I would have no idea where my G500 would stand unless it was included. I would like to see an up-datable comparison grade scale introduced to reviews. If my mouse got a 5 (5 being the best) when it was launched and reviewed, would it still get a 5 when compared to today's new releases?
I know that would be a sod to track and keep updated, but maybe an all time list of hardware and peripherals that have gained Bit-Tech's badge awards??

ReplyAgreed!
I wanna see how the Roccat, the Mionix and the Ikari compare. ;D

I think I use about 800 on my g400 :)

Keyboards maybe, but even then it's rare. The reason is that unless it's groundbreaking comfort, it isn't going to be much different.
The MX518 still rules. :D
... just so I know if any if its worth getting a new mouse =p
