i really like the 2 memory slot and 3 USB feature. shame on you MacBook Air!

but the battery life leaves something to be desired. being a subnotebook, portability is the key, and if one is on a 5hr train trip, watching 2 films will not happen unfortunately. this is where iPhone shines :) good battery life (good for 3 films when using headphones) + multimedia experience + web browser + fits in your pocket.

after i've gotten an iPhone, i don't find those subnotebooks to be useful at all. for writers, it might be more confortable to type on an actual keyboard. but for people who wants to watch video on the move, to do light surfing when there's WiFi, what's the point of subnotebooks over iPhone?

Awesome. Every one is making small laptops now days. I love it.

This acer sounds awesome. But build look cheap . But not bad for a 400$ laptop.

Thanks for the Review BT

The webbook is currently a product being sold by Elonex via Carphone Warehouse.

Ah I see the Martin Test making it's way into new lands!

The other day we got a new electric shower fitted by our landloard after our old one broke, and after asking my girlfriend if it was okay, she casually replied "Well, it passes the Martin Test". I nearly fell off my chair.

That's because it is an MSI Wind. I really like my 4211, I've been up around 4 in the morning writing on it for the past few days. Compared to using a full size laptop, it's pretty damn comfortable.

I found one acer Store who sells Aspire One accessories and warranties....the prices look good....

Might you do a quick re-review or addendum when this is available, Joe?

In the box is only the power brick and the battery pack, nothing else.

i find the most common name for them is subnotebook.

but anyways.... i was kind of hoping to see a review of one with the 6-cell battery, and maybe the windows XP version. at least that one you can get some decent benchmark tests out of them (even if it is mostly office productivity benchmarks)

I was gunna buy one of these but it's taken too long to ship and have gone for an EEE 901 instead. Not having a 6 cell battery was probably one of the other reasons, that and it was supposed to be £200 which really would of been a deal!

On page one your [ url ] tag isn't ended correctly. (it says /eurl) A single re-read or editorial should have caught this yesno?

The MSI Wind is not an UMPC. It's a subnotebook or netbook. :p

funny how the modders are complaining about having to take it apart to upgrade the RAM <lolz>
I guess this is the trade off for the small form factor but decent performance. This one looks like a winner to me - certainly more appealing than the EEEPC

Hi Joe, fabulous review. I had one of these and sent it back because it seemed to have a wireless connectivity issue experienced by other Acer Aspire One users. I liked it a lot and was actually considering waiting a few weeks for Acer to fix the problem. Now, I think I've made the right choice because Acer just announced a price drop on Aspire Ones: $349 for XP and $329 for Linux versions. http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/acer-drives-outstanding-value-netbook/story.aspx?guid={DA12E182-9176-4834-A985-5090FF8C4171}&dist=hppr
the announcement was made about 4 hours ago and I haven't been able to find any retailers who adjusted their prices on the Aspire One so far. I will keep checking as it will be a complete STEAL for $50 less.

Just picked one of these up based on review here and playing with 901 and MSI it seems to fit my needs better. Thanks for this tip, the site is almost essential.

I got the linux 120G hd and 1G ram ............ the linux software lasted only one day as i could not make the msn messenger work so i installed xp. with the ammount i saved by buying the linux version i bought an external dvd and extended the warranty.

i am pretty happy with my ONE but the wi-fi is a bit annoying at times as it gets disconnected and sometimes the netbook wont even recognize it. this happend mainly when transfering large ammount of data on my network. the soultion .... i had to buy a usb wifi dongle. apart from that i can say that running normal application is pretty fast i even installed photoshop and works fine (no rendering ) and i payed videos which are crystal clear and run smoothly
