I like this case as much as I liked the first sexy Alienware that didn't use a Chieftec case. It's definitely over the top and screams "Look at me!", but it isn't a far cry from the CM 830 Stacker, which I just so happen to love and own
I would imagine that the novelty of the door would wear off pretty quickly and it would simply be really annoying. I prefer clean simple lines without any fancy jiggery pokery, I don't mind bright colours but I draw the line at pointless gimmicks or gadgets.
I used to have a Coolermaster Wave case with a hinged door at the top covering the drive bays, I ended up leaving it open the whole time. I wouldn't even consider this case as you end up paying for the engineering that's gone into the fancy mechanism and it just ends up being an irritating pain in the arse.
It won't be "outdated in a year". It's gonna be outdated just right when it hit the shelves for we have a realase of the GTX 280 in mid-June and then the 4870x2 from ATI. Not so nice for a 4000$ (wait, Euros!? Holy...) machine, eh?
At first, the external design appears...okay, but then he opens the front door and my ugly dos, its hideous, those gray plastic tacky bumps really are...hideous! Stick with Lian Li.
