not a bad card assuming you dont have a 8800 GT / GTS / GTX / Ultra yet, but even though the oc is almost non existant i'm sure BFG will charge a premium for it which makes regular 9600 cards the better deal.

it's one of the cheapest 9600 GTs on Scan at the moment. :)

I've said it before, but IMHO the 'Sea of Grey' is a great thing. It means we can all go out an buy the card we like, the card that has the right *ring* to the ears, and we'll all have good cards. The fact that for a fiver less there could be an extra two frames on your screen at this-and-that game is irrelevant if all the cards offer good value for money.

Ofcourse, all this is provided you stay away from the GS :p

And Tim, plz don't get me wrong, i really do greatly appreceate the benchmarks. Good review again btw, i admire your patience in endlessly testing cards with unsurprising performance.

What should I buy if I am living on a chinese salary (350USD$ a month) and I want it to last until starcraft 2 comes along.

How would this compare to a 7600GT? It's a shame it doesn't have a black PCB...

when are you going to test the rest of the 9600GTs?

The 7600 GT is quite a bit slower than the 8600 GTS and X1950 Pro (see here)

still think i will wait for 9800gt. so the 9800gt will be similar in speed to the 8800GTS?

I have seen prices on shops that have the 9600GT higher then the 8800GT. And thats because, and i quote a shop salesman from a known shop in the Netherlands: "The 9600GT is the folow up card ofthe 8800GT, its a lot faster!" And the current 8800GT (xfx, asus) they sell, cost around 249 euro. the 9600GT sells for 279 euro.

I rest my case...

I'm wondering what the idle/load temps of the 9600GTs are

They're MUCH lower than the 8800 GT. 8800 GT hits 60/80 (idle/load) and 9600 GT hits about 45/65. Fewer transistors and a slightly tweaked process help to keep the heat down. :)

Ahh.. That's pretty good.. How'd you say it compares to a 7900GS :p

I'm thinking of swapping mine for an 8800GT or 9600GT.. Can't decide on which
