I've had the Noctua NH-U12P in a system for well over a year now and its great, i think the only downside is it's weight though. Obviously it's bigger which help cool the CPU more efficiently so I'll take the bad with the good.

The NH-U12P has only been available since November...

Is now right time to shout "PWND!"? I'm not into that sort of stuff, but the time seems to be right.

Anyway back to the topic. Seems like a nice performer, I'm just slightly amused by Noctua's way to "back-tech" to the less-fancy fan design after shouting out loud how their new one will destroy all the old records in noise and performance ;)

Sorry, I'm going to have to gripe about this - exactly what drivel-enhanced principle of mono-browed advertising hackery has made it impossible for manufacturers to describe any setting in terms that are not superlative? I think we can call this the "good, better, best" syndrome, after the "quality" slider settings for some video codecs.

Message for the manufacturers: high fan or full fan? No, you tongue-chewing corporate imbeciles, it's called low and high, in any world where people are not obsessed, and I mean obsessed, with the childish need to term everything with a positive.

Excellent review...

I've been in the market for a new heatsink for some time now, yet been unable to decide which one to go for...but; that seems now to have been solved.;)
Quote Shielder 20th January 2008, 16:50
Ditto. Was going to go with the Thermalright Ultra 120Extreme with a Noctua fan on it, until I saw this article (and others). Definately going for this heatsink now (assuming it'll fit in the case that is...)

Yea - check you have the depth.

stand offs + mobo + height.

Makes me think about swapping out my Scyth Infity...which franky just dosn't perform like it's supposed to.......is this bigger or smaller, as the infinity only just fits in my p180.
Quote Demon Cleaner 20th January 2008, 19:55
Great review. Was going to go for a Noctua because of it's quietness to performance ratio, so this update only strengthens my decision. But I guess if it doesn't fit into a P180 it's unlikely to fit in a P182 then?. Oh well, I doubt the side fan does much anyway.
Quote biebiep 20th January 2008, 19:57
Still nothing that compares to an 120 Ultra Extreme with a decent fan on it...
I get 49°C (roomtemp = 20°C) on a fully loaded(OCCT) Q6600@3.4Ghz
In TAT(120% load) it goes to 56°C, so that still leaves me with a lot of headroom

I'd really like to see something pushing the limits again... not another highend product that can't really compete with the king.

I'll bring it home and double check for you - I didn't install it, per say, just measured the two separately.

it seems to do the job well, but thats as ugly as it gets init..!
Quote Mankz. 20th January 2008, 21:16
I know a Scythe Infiniti fits in a P180, so it must be a close call
Quote Ghys 20th January 2008, 21:47
When I look at how big heatsinks are these days, I find it hard to believe that my cpu is cooled by that little aluminum crap

funny you should review this. i just ordered 2 noctua case fans (120mm and 80mm) yesterday for the comptuer i'm building mi nan xD

i'm curious how good they will be, the specs look fantastic. might get miself some at some point :9
Quote wuyanxu 20th January 2008, 22:44
still a bit away from low fan speed on Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme.

i wonder if the new Coolmaster's V12 will beat it, with fans on low......

I was in two minds - should have been provide. Prevent corrosion, provide resistance against.
