This is a real shame, not because I'm an AMD fanboy but because of several things:
1. Competition is always good for the consumers.
2. I like to start reading a review of a CPU (or GPU) and have a bit of excitement as to whether it's going to beat the pants off the current performance leader, it's been an unfortunate long time since I was last surprised by the performance of a new product (unless I was surprised of how poorly it performed).
3. I always cheer for the underdog (although I have no problems buying from the "upperdog" (is that the opposite of underdog?).

Intel have really hit the spot recently with their dual and quad core cpus, I've had my Q6600 for a while now and it rocks (oc'd to 3.2GHz with no effort) and will still out perform any stock CPU out there, not bad for ~£155!!

yea its a real shame they dont seem to scale very well :(
the actual chip is pretty decent and seems to scaled with clockspeed really nicely, but the damn things just wont go fast enough :(
i got an m3a32 mobo and an 9500 cpu for the fun of it (in my server), can i make it get to 2.4ghz no, now i had an Asrock nf7vista sothing mobo and was able to get it to 2.4ghz (the 3 PMW's was on fire but it was stable) and the CPU was an toster (useing an TK mini typoon the Stock cooler was not good at cooling it at Stock speeds)
one thing is nice about the mobo is that thay seem to have got the On reboot fall back if OC failed
my next gameing PC will be intel thats an shame realy

Top dog, I think.
It's a shame that AMD is struggling so much, both in the high- and low-ends. I'd like to see some new high-end AMD chips and lower prices on the Extreme CPUs... but then again, who wouldn't?
Intel and nVidia have been dominating the performance market for a shade too long, methinks. R680 and the B3 stepping better be damn nice...

For games i would say just something, it performs less cause it's dual core game.Indeed q6600 world wide.I have x2 now, but on 1.2.2008 e8200, e8400, e8500 intel proccesors and q9_ _ _ series will come out and q6600 will have lower price and it will be really worldwide product.I'll try to sell my x2 and my mobo and buy q6600 :)

That's also what I thought but sometimes it just doesn't make sens. Too bad I don't remember but I had a pretty good example of why they can't have thought of a specific name on the year it would have been registered
I remember back in the day when chips were comming out and the war between CPU manufactuers. my friends and I always said Intel had plans for the future that would blow AMD away. AMD had the upper hand on Intel for some time while Intel had a seceret plan hid away that would ruin AMD. Intel had this planed for some time where if a company like AMD came out way ahead of them they could introduce this future plan of theirs and trump any one in their way. I'd even bet that if AMD did come out with a Phenom chip that totaly dominated Intel, Intel would just release things much better than what they are today. I'm saying there is no reason competativly to release a chip today that will be released in 2015. Intelhas the technology to do much better than what we have today but it is not cost effective and no reason. Intel is much older, bigger and experienced than AMD. when AMD came out it just made compition for Intel and they dropped prices (good for us right) Intel is so far ahead of AMD and has been all along when AMD had the upper hand its because Intel got used to making chips a certian way and when they changed due to AMD look what happened. id bet too that the new Intel Chips will be crazy fast compaired to AMD and i'd too bet that they will have another new chip out Q4 2008 - Q1 2009 and stay there till AMD catches up but then they will start all over again with much supiorior technology. (future planning)
i think we are all really lucky that intel is being so nice to us by not only continuing to put out new products, but also keeping their prices so reasonable. by the state of their competition, it seems they could easily raise prices considerably.
Disappointing. Surely, new steppings would prove to be much better overclockers, but the way bit-tech describes the chip's poor performance brings up questions regarding the bin grades that AMD ships out. They must have really raised their tolerances to allow such 'weak' yields to go through. Looks like I'm going to continue sitting and waiting for a replay of AMD's "Clawhammer".:(
I just hate reading anything to do with AMD and and ATI nowadays, lol It really kills me to see them releasing products time and time just to get beat, not by a little bit but by far.
After the penryn chips come out this year and do you think Intel will start to increase there price's? I mean last year and the year before it was the old price war, AMD was dropping price's just to hold onto some market share but now, there is no incentive to buy AMD CPU's even if there cheap, Intel chips out-perform them way too much.

I wonder this too, AMD must know these chips/products suck, why are they releasing them?

...
Actually the 3870 is in line price / performance wise and if you don't plan on overclocking most AMD CPUs are too - especially since the motherboards are usually cheaper.
i can only seem to get the CPU stable @ 2.4 ish i did have it at 2475mhz for 3days now its no longer desktop stable

NB HT 8x (reports CPU-Z 1800mhz with OC)
1.6ghz HT speed (reports CPU-Z 1800mhz with OC)
as i am very much so guessing on what i can mess with and limited to an mini typoon Air cooling (keeps it at 50C tho useing upto date core temp) do not think Heat is what is makeing the OC fail as you had the same problem as me soon as you pushed the OC higher it would no longer OC to the Level it was set to before (yours was 2.5 but after OC would only do 2.4 same as me)
I think that AMD needs to become a subsidiary to Samsung. If Samsung buys AMD, this will give AMD what they want most - cash. Having a huge financial backing AMD can really develop products that are on par with Intel. For us this will mean incredibly fast processors at low and very low prices.

In terms of technological ideas AMD and ATI are ahead of Nvidia they just need some products with that raw processing power.
i readed in german magazine intel scores high with the benches but intel doesnt use real quadcore architecture
and AMD does.. may they perform lower but look at the Ghz's they only need work on that part.
i planned to step over to intel but after i think no i keep it on AMD because its my own trusted cpu
and performs good in my eye's.

Poor AMD, they cant keep up.... *sigh*
Were these Phenoms made in 2006, or have AMD screwed up their dates too?

they've always done that, and so has intel actually
Someone once gave me the answer of why they do that but I forgot http://membres.lycos.fr/playtime69/gogol.gif

yes because it makes much more sense to release nothing...
