I find that two transducers in a set of headphones with a good binural recording, can give you a better sense of surround sound than actually labeled SS headphones with more than two drivers.
I used to use the old version of these when I played cs competitively. Back then, they were amazing I thought. I could pinpoint sound extremely easily, much better than anyone else in my clan, and i got them incredibly cheap off overclockers.
However, i'm not an audiophile and I much prefer my proper surround sound to the point where i never really wear headphones any more :(.
EDIT: The non-USB Zalman's, which come without the volume toggle and things, set you back £20 on Overclockers. An incredible bargain if you ask me :).
I'm after a pair of headphones for gaming. I've been advised that the Steelsound 5HV2 are probably one of the best to go for. Anyone got any other ideas or recommends?
You had problems opening the dome?
Done it three times (i have a rabbit who likes to eat cords from time to time) and it takes under 10sec to get it open with just my fingers.
But some things i agree with, the design ain't the best (all my friends say they look like the legs on an AT-AT walker), sometimes they feel uncomfortable on my head (mostly because of the weight and sheer size, cup design is great though).
I would say that you sometimes notice the 5.1 effect over other headsets and they are cheap but the design feels strange and flim and all your friends will wonder that is you have on your desk.
Ahh well, i still have my dome helmet for viva Pinata...
Just a stupid question. Since those headphones are USB connected they won't use your sound card right ? I mean, will I be able to switch modes with my x-fi and all that ?
that volume control - argh, buttons bug me - I always want to volume to be between two 'notches', and why couldn't those buttons just be on the cups, and wth do you need an LED for?!
PS - there's a typo in the last link on page 1 (though the link itself is great!).
A couple of questions. First, how is it compared to other surround sound headphones, like the Speedlink Medusa? Is the whole concept a bit flawed, or is it just the Zalmans? And one more thing, why do we in the UK have to pay for almost twice the price than if we bought the same product(s) in the States?
A friend of mine had a set of medusa 5.1's. The microphone went rubbish pretty quickly and I don't think they were that comfortable. For the price corners must be cut for 5.1

AKG 501, end.
Got to second that. I've yet to be convinced by any surround sound headphones, be it for gaming or anything else.
I know a lot of people don't really believe in having surround sound headphones Vs. just a single speaker in each ear. I have some LTB surround sound usb headphones, and to be honest the surround sound really works. I'm a big Call of Duty 2 fan, and when playing online it can really give away the position of someone, a lot better then stereo headphones.

my experiance was that surround sound headphones are a scam. As for positioning I find grado's are quite nice for that (aswell as been rather nice for music) as they have a high frequancy response peak which coincides nicly with footstep noises. For low bass noises and genral music listening I prefer my sen hd650's... they trick me into thinking my speakers are on (my amp I have a selector switch to turn my speaker on/off, often I look down in suprise to see they are off). This is because the bass is been acuraly reproduced and is going through my body tricking me into thinking that the sound source is not straped to my head.
I have the previous version of these that have the front, rear, and center audio connectors. I find that they are great for games, allowing you to pinpoint enemy positions much easier in games like CS and America's Army. I think the experience they offer with movies is also pretty good. But for music, they are not as good as others. But for the price, I think it's a pretty darn good deal.
For me they are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. Although I've only owned a couple but they seemed much more comfortable and had a better feel than my friends Bose noise blockers. And I don't really have a problem with the hole hinge design either, but then again I'm no headphone connoisseur.

Sound in both was good, but nothing 'surrounding' really and nothing to get excited about when compared to some good speakers.
Bindi has laser eyes?
