I've had a Lexar FireWire CF reader for quite some time - it replaced an Asus 6-in-1 internal USB job that was more hassle than it's worth. Money well spent as it's probably the oldest bit of kit I'm running now :D
It makes sence to have an iPod conector in a PC now that almost everyone has one, I have chosen not to conform to the iPod take-over. as long as I have a USB mini B for my Phone and my mp3 player then I am happy I do think that that unit could have a display like the old Asus iPanel, then we could get the basic info for what the board and CPU are doing :|
I have to say that your review on this product is way off; I am a long time reader first time poster. I have built many systems and this one was a little different but I enjoyed it. I started with a Asus P5W DH DLX WiFi MB with a Quad Q6600, Nividia 8800, 500gig hard drive with 2 gig corsair ram which I also installed a Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion Series Sound Card even though it has HD sound built in they wanted better. The fronlinker which I have to agree, the Door is a little miss on Asus part, but to say that this should of come with a headphone jack and listen to the readers dog this product is a little silly considering that most of your Computer Cases come with that on the front of your case which everyone would have to agree is better. Plus you forgot to mention that this allows you to play your IPod or MP3 through your computers speakers without turning the computer on, thats if you combine this with a ASUS Home Digital MB which is what this product is intended for. Plus you add the entire features, the ability to charge your USB devices while the computer off is great. I thought it strange that you would mention that most USB devices come with their own plug-in when one can say that about your headphones plug it in to your soundcard no matter how inconvenient that is. I find this a very sound product a neat with unseen feature, but with everything I wish it was cheaper.
I think Joe's review was quite fair really, he said it was a fairly decent bit of kit with one or two issues.
The lack of a headphone port is a bit of a strange oversight, especially considering they added the larger mic port. If your case doesn't come with a headphone port on it or it doesn't work (like on my dad's case after he accidently spilled tea down the front of it - lesson learned never leave your cuppa on the keyboard tray) it could have been ideal.
