They will probably go down after a bit... the GTX started out above list price when originally released. I think it was something like $75 past the Nvidia's price for the BFG version.

the other issue is that since it's the same core, the overclocking gains will be less than a GTX (if you're insane enough to void the warranty on the ultra(s) in the first place)
I think, or rather, I know that Nvidia is cherry picking cores for the Ultras. All G80 cores are coming from the same wafers, with the Ultra chips being the ones closest to the centre (generally the 'best' chips when it comes to overclocking, power leakage, etc). GTXs are the remaining 'good' cores and the GTSs are the ones with either defects or those that don't pass the speed grade requirements for either GTX or Ultra binning.
im happy with my 2x7900GT that can still plays SupremeCommander at 30+ on average at 1680x1050 - 0xAA (bloody hell, at the sheer scale of this game nobody's gonna notice when one of ur units is turning at the right angle to show some jaggies on his torso...), 8xAF.......
i'm quite happy with my EVGA 8800 gtx with the factory overclocking. I see no reason to upgrade to the ultra for between .7-17fps extra performance, not at that price atleast

aye, definitely not worth it unless you're insane. :D
good god...compared to 559.99 for the stock 8800 gtx (529.99 after $30 rebate)...48% premium (57% when rebate is factored in) for that small of a gain. when i upgrade, it will be for the 8800 gts 640 in sli...and that would still save around $110 over this ultra...anyone see a hole in that logic?

Jesus!
on the upside a specially produced ultra (with more SPs) would cost way more than this method.
More? Is that legal?
Seriously though, the cooler is...well...cool!!
Any info on these Tim?
Also when does the NDA for the R600 stop?
the R600 is supposed to have 320 of them.
but being a self-outed nvidia fanboy I'll stick with my 680i and WC GTXs

And yes, I, too, would like x64 benchmarks with newer hardware. :)
I agree..!!
Anyway, this is still completely silly to me, but then I play Guild Wars, which runs smooth on my XT850 with all the eye candy maxed.
As for Vista/DX10, well GW2 is due to come out in beta some time in 2008, so I guess that will be the time I start looking at upgrading...
gimme...
how long till the review?
I posted in another thread, the NDA apparently now ends May 14th :(
