The Asus Striker Extreme costs around £250... which translates to 1,808.81 AED - according to XE.

Me again :)

Page 2 - penultimate paragraph - 'could cause problems with some of the smaller' - add 'with'

Last page - 8th paragraph - 'when running out stress test' - change 'out' to 'our'

You get a ride on the rocking horse, Tim! :D

Oh aye, excellent review btw. It is a bit 'ouch' on the wallet. It's good to see the P5B holding up its own, for the most part.. but what's with the Quake4 results? Seems ever so low compared to the other test setups (not that I ever play Quake anymore, let alone its 4th incarnation).

Kenco you should apply to be the proof reader. :D

£250 seems expensive, but when you take into consideration 'this thing rockkkkkk !!!' it becomes fairly reasonable, possibly even cheap.

I've got one at home, its a great board (although so far I've not given it chance to really stretch its legs).

The only issues I have are:

1) IDE port placement sucks - I've solved this by going entirely SATA - HDDs and both optical drives. At least they will once the new optical drives arrive :)

2) Fan header placement is fairly rubbish, although to be fair this is as much an issue of my case and its fan mounts as anything else :)

I've just been on the phone with Asus and I'm told that the stock issues should be resolved in the next few days, with a second batch scheduled to arrive next week. After that, I'm assured that stock will come at regular intervals and the price should come down a little - I'm not sure by how much though.

I've got an Alienware here that I'm tempted to rip apart because the EVGA board in it actually seems to work.

must say im disappointed in asus which has always been my manufacturer of choice for goin this route. M/B looks good n stable just all them lil pointless add ons a total waiste for any1 but lil wankers wantin bragging rites

just shows u there alot of idiots out there who'll buy tech like this and such as fatality branded dribble

id save myself a packet and revultion at flashy lights and get the asus board which is exactly the same without the crub n dribble...actually i'll be waitin for santa rose desktop euqivilent chipset and the new core 2 duo's

We can certainly work on it ;)
Quote Mother-Goose 25th January 2007, 10:38
I'll have two please, with whipped cream :)

EDIT: Argh, I didn't mean to type that, someone in the office asked me if I wanted a mocha DOH!

Looks impressive TIM, me wants, I'll pay full wack for it, its just too funky!

EDIT 2: Being 680 based I am assuming that thing wont work the R600 based cards when they come out? In Xfire I mean, I know you can have 1 of whatever PCI-e card in it.

hmmz.. I am more impresed with the scores of the x1900 CF then the mobo scores...
Quote Simon M 30th January 2007, 15:28
Hi all,
new poster here.
I have been reading some interesting things about the new 680i boards, and am keen to get on with my mid life crises new build :D

I know the case, the cooler, memory, drives, PSU and GPU's that I wish for my new build but the amount of indecision that accompanies the mobo issue is getting rediculous (sic)

P5N32-E SLI Plus appears to be a 650/590 hybrid
P5N32-E SLI is buggy
EVGA and BFG 680i boards buggy
Striker Extreme is costly
Running SLI is pretty much set in stone IE no intel chipsets.

Any thoughts?

@Tim in your review of the Striker, the acoutrements seemed lacking in an SLI bridge/connector/thingy can you confirm please

BTW new build
E6600
Coolermaster Stacker 830
2x1GB CorsairTwinX XMS2 Dominator,DDR2 PC2-6400, CAS 4-4-4-12, EPP
2xAsus 8800GTX
750W Silverstone ST75F
2x320Gb Western Digital WD3200KS RAID 0

As I mentioned my mid life crises:I never imagined spending £2,000 on a new build and it will most likely be a one off so I want the best I can get whilst the spending frenzy is upon me
