Quick question (I know you can't test every heatsink/fan out there...) whats the word on the Scythe Ninja? I'm quite impressed by that heatsink, even if it can be a bit of a pain to install...

And yes, that Passiv is a rather mental piece of kit... :D

It looks like the Freezer 7 Pro is actually £17.60 from Kustom:

The Tuniq tower 120 cooler looks interesting aswell. I wonder how ths compares:

I had this arrive on my desk this morning:

http://staff.bit-tech.net/tim/nh-u12.jpg

I will be doing some Conroe overclocking with it later this month.

(it's a Noctua NH-U12)
Quote DeX 1st August 2006, 15:36
When you do the overclocking tests can you give overclocking results when using the stock cooler aswell? That way we can compare the difference between an overclocked E6400 + £30 heatsink and an overclocked E6600 with no extra heatsink. That way we can see which option gives the best bang/buck.
Quote Tim S 1st August 2006, 15:42
sure - I'll see what I can do.

was waiting for something along these lines... Still not sure I can be arsed with watercooling. Maybee that can be a phase 2 project when i get my new pc sorted.

Cant i just put DangerDen RBX (1/2") - P4 775 in there? :|
Do the old 775 blocks work with conroe?
Quote LVMike 1st August 2006, 17:19
I would love to see this same test done with some of the most popular water blocks out there using a standard set up. feed everything through the same pump, and use a black Ice GT220 rad with some good fans.

I think this is one of the better pieces you all have done lately. Thankyou it was compriensive, well thought out, and very informative/user friendly.

thanks for putting 2 w/c kits in

anyone know where I can get the Akasa AK-960 in the U.S.? I know I can get the Freezer 7 over here, but damn...that thing looks enormous.

Who's the newegg (popular online retailer) equivellent in the UK?

Yes, everything is the same mounting/socket-wise

Some constructive feedback from my part:

While the article may be fairly well written, I think it's lacking in the "scores" department. The numbers didn't really tell me much about how it performed. Showing the scores in stars, or some other form of seeing what the "max score" was supposed to be, would be a little more helpful and intuitive.

The graph at the conclusion page could probably be easier to read if it was sorted by performance, or sorted by category, such as having all the HSF's CPU temprature next to eachother.

Apart from that, a well written article.

By the way, any idea how the HSFs compare to a cooler such as the CNPS9500, in terms of noise and performance?

Is that an apartment building in Japan?

What's the temp rating on the Conroe?

Seems that we're entering the "Tower" era.
And I still defend air against water.

I've been torn between the Tuniq Tower 120 and the Freezer 7 Pro. Sure, the Freezer will work just find and dandy...but the Tuniq Tower is just so bad ass.

as was said by Paradigm Shifter, know u guys can't test all the heatsink out there but i am interested on seeing how the zalman 9500 performance against the rest

Sorry, but to me those seem to vastly contradict each other - can anyone explain how that works, or is that a typo ..

Is the Freezer really better than the TT Big Typhoon? Wow I'm shocked, I thought the T Big Typhoon was far superior.

So can you guys safely say that I can overclock far better (or the same) with the Freezer Pro than the Typhoon?

I just need a confirmation :D

Also here in the U.S., the Typhoon is on sale, with free shipping. If I get the Freezer 7 Pro, with shipping it becomes more than the Typhoon. So should I get the Typhoon or the Frezer 7 pro?

yeah, that confused me too.

Great review though. However, didn't see the Tuniq Tower 120 and the Scythe Ninja. Apparently they kick the crap out of the rest of the coolers in terms of noise/performance ratio. Ah well.

"Unlike most of the other heat sinks, it uses six separate heat pipes instead of three pipes doubled over. However, because of the design, only three of these are aligned correctly (pointing vaguely upwards) when the unit is installed in a tower case."

I never thought that gravity would affect a heat pipe that badly - is this really a big deal?

...CPNS8000... Disappointingly, possibly because only two heat pipes are correctly oriented,

the freezer 7 did a better job, was quieter, and it blows air out the back of the case (assuming you have a fan in the back of your case) .....

i would have thought the freezer is better ...

As with most TT products, they look good, but when it comes down to it they suck at cooling and they are loud

i thought they worked on a capillary action though, so they could even work upside down if you want

Cool. I thought about buying that instead of the Scythe Ninja I picked up in the end - unlike the Scythe, it can only be installed in one orientation...

Still, look forward to the results.
