Personally I think that high-end graphics aren't going anywhere, it wouldn't make any sense as others have stated in this thread also. If the high-end grahps are ditched on the pc, then it basicly means that everyone who really want's to play with all of the eye-candy turned on has to jump into the console bandwagon - if it hasn't already become an obvious purchase by then anyway, as I think many who like to play games have consoles already.
It's very true that the bleeding-edge cards are great for getting people interested, but I think it's also got to do with the companies wanting to really battle against each other...a sort of remnescent of honorable duels - although the PR-bull that's been thrown around isn't exactly that - in the past.
I suppose most "casual" players are content with playing on medium in-game details and clear that it's the market segment that the money is made on, but cutting off the head of St.High-End? That's...unthinkable!
