Ok im a Need for Speed fan
and also and ATI fan boy..
Right now i own an Sapphire ATI 9800 pro 256mb
Need for speed most wanted is coming out (there is an demo now) www.needforspeed.com
Was wondering if u can get the cards running up to the demo and see how they do...since the game is really into shadows and car detail/ envirnment detail....I have it running on my 9800 but the smoke and shadows seem blocky...but the world detail and car deatil is good...the frame rate looks decent, but i was finding my self a bit mad that it wasnt flowwing very very welll.....
So if it woundnt be much trouble if u can test the 1800xt 512mb and the 2 GTX's for this demo?
I am in the market for an ATI card, (i vowed not to buy a NVIDIA card) and ATI fanboy thing i guess.....
Also need advise on either buying this x1800xt 512mb or wait till spring for the R580 to come out...becuase im looking for more pipelines, becuase for some reason i feel if i buy this x1800xt 512mb card will will regret when R580 comes out:>

And moneys not a vertue...
Hi and welcome to the forums.
Unfortunately, I don't have the Radeon X1800XT at the moment - it went back to our sister publication (the supply levels really suck at the moment). However, I hope to be able to have another look at the XT in future reviews - we will be including NFS: Most Wanted from our next review onwards. Unfortunately, the demo came out a little too late for it to be included in this one.
thnx for the invite...well NEED FOR SPEED MOST WANTED will come out the 17th so i probebly will see some reviews about it...
Now i have to make an desicion
Buy the x1800xt 512mb - to run recent games including NFSMW
Wait for R580 to come out in spring - Too run recent games better NFSMW lol
OR buy a lower slass card to save money, then buy R580 or better (card right now Sapphire 9800 pro 256mb(maybe overclock) - Too run recent games as well as the price puts it NFSMW
I wouldn't head for a 9xxx card anymore. There are X800GTO's out there for less than 200/$ so this is the best you could probably get for a relatively small grab into your pocket.
I am totally unepressed with ATI and what they are doing with their products. Not only did they delease the x1800xt which beats the GTX by a small margin, but now NVIDIA came out with the 7800 GTX 512MB and guess wat, ATI fans like me, We got pwned, and so did ATI :( im crying my gutts out on how ATI was such a great, serious company about graphics and design and now look, a company that just came out of no where took away all ATI had to offer, might as well go bankrupt..... Ok now i am deffinitly not buying the x1800xt lol, not even worth buying lol....might as well wait for the R580 to release, and if thats any good then ill be happy...but if not then im swithcing to NVIDIA and what they have to offer....
So ATI you are lucky to still have me as an costemer of ur products, but its really hard to look how you've been beaten to easyly....

You serious?!
1st: ATI didn't get pwned that bad... well they did get hit hard but they'll come back soon with a card being able to compete. At last 580 should be able to.
2nd: nVidia came out of nowhere?! WtF?! I mean... ehrm... nVidia has been in the market for top performance cards way before ATI launched their 9700. :|
The GTX 512 is overpriced IMO, which doesn't make it a better buy than either Radeon X1800XT 512MB or one of the faster 256MB GeForce 7800 GTXs, like the Gainward or XFX.
Sure, it's the fastest card out there, but it isn't fast enough to warrant an extra £100.

im lolling :)
hes probably about 12 and doesnt remember the days when nvidia owned :p
i remember my Ti4200 fondly :D
nVidia actually got owned before by 3dfx... but that is another company some people don't seem to remember. I once owned a Voodoo1 with incredible 54MHz. :D
does anyone know if ati have changed the mounting holes for the x1800's?
wanna know if my waterblock will still fit, im thinking probalby not but i can hope :p

It uses the same mount as the nVidia 6800/7800 cards.
I've still got my Canopus 12mb Voodoo 2's. 1 Pair with SLI connectors

They've definitely changed - much closer to the mounts that NVIDIA use on GeForce 6/7 series.
hmm, so are there any blocks that definately fit?
im seriously considering getting an x1800xl and just clocking the hell out of it
but i dont do aircooling :p
Ok i plan to spend not more than 700$ as of now
and im 18 by the way, i got into video cards when the 9800 pro 256mb came out and i bought it for 400$...and now its worth like 150 or less $ CAD
So im planning to buy a new mother board (im attached to Sapphire) sooo....
Hopeing that it wont go over 700$ CAD right now , and even hopeing it will cost about 500$ which would be great.... ;)
I dont know much about the history of NVIDIA, but i know alot about ATI and their chipsets and GPU's
And then ill wait till 2006 mid year-late year to see what's up on the GPU market, and then maybe spend that 700$ for that amazing graphics card lol, but maybe ill just buy a Laptop for University

Eek! Those Canops were the high end back then - the only ones not to follow the reference design and to come with fans. I got my dad to buy my first one at a Walden Software for $307 and I got my second one for $290. Wow, $600 on video cards Wish I could do that now :'(
For the block, just buy one with a 6800/7800 mount. There was a guy on another forum ([H]ard OCP) showing off his Twinplex Pro on his x1800XT with a 4 hole 6800 mount.
how was battlefield 2 tested in this? was it online or using the single player mode. Which map was tested. the reason im askin is that i have the x1800 xt and im not sure if its underperfiorming. i ddid a fraps test on the strike at kirkland map at 1360 by 768 custom resolution, 4xAA(quality adpative), max details, and i got avg of 60 fps, min 29fps, max 92 fps. When i run this test on the same map in multi player online mode it drops frames dramticlly.
On the 64 player version of this i get like avg 40-48 fps, min 23 fps, max 70 fps. Is my system underferforming? ive got a P4(600) 3ghz, 2 gig ddr2-533 ram kingston, 550watt antec truepower, 150 gig HD, gigabyte GA-81915P Duo Pro, Catlyst 6.1 drivers.
Oh yeah and my 3d marks 05 score is only 7144
Help me plase?

£450 would be a reasonable price for something like the XFX/BFG cards that are overclocked. I don't think £520-530 is reasonable.
