How does the PvP side of multiplayer work out (i.e. deathmatch). Is it like the original where the cover mechanics went out of the window and people just strafe around with the shotgun or is it actually good?
Absolutely bril. Feels like a natural progression from the first, and like a true sequel. After the credits, the little message there, I really hope actually means something, and we get the sequel hinted at.
Anybody else feel the game as a whole ramped up the difficulty compared to the first?

I'm pretty sure it was slated to be a trilogy from the very beginning.
And the little I've played so far has been a blast. The limited edition lancer is crazy :D
I think the review is pretty fair actually and I wasn't surprised by the 8 at all as it read exactly like an 8.
As Joe says, Great if you liked the first one and want more of the same.
What really makes Gears for me though is the Co-op, its a really big selling point and one that I will buy it for every time. Nothing better than sharing a testosterone fuelled gun fest with friends.
Of all the new games out so far this year, this one is top of the play list... beating Little Big Planet even.
There is another category of player that will love this game.. those who never played gears 1. I never did, but picked up Gears 2 and was blown away at how good it is. Its also the best looking game Ive played on the 360. Who would have thought the 360 was capable of such graphics and smooth play. At the moment its being rented, but the value in Multiplayer means I will be picking up a full copy too. Very impressed... worthy of the gears hype.
Insane difficulty is well, insane! I do like the cross difficulty in co-op (Biosniper is on Hardcore, I'm on insane), we've found a bug which had a very simple workaround but we hadn't thought of it.
The collection items also give a lot more backstory to the whole plot, reading them and understanding what's going on is very useful, especially with some of the items. They open a whole raft of questions that I hope the book & the final game will answer.
But the whole "you need a headset" thing is in my view a pre-requisite for live, when I'm in an online game and I'm host (especially on Burnout) if someone is in my team and doesn't talk they get kicked.
I use the Locust rifle and the torque bow and sniper rifle. I managed to get the best headshot in the game. I shot one of the priests by the lake with the Torque, got a headshot, he fell to his knees then blew up.
One of the most enjoyable game ever, especially if you play the same campaign with your friend. Hardcore difficulty was way too easy, cant wait to get insane! ;)
ZOMG ITS NOT A TEN DIE YOU GUYZ OMG I MEAN IT'S THE BEST GAME EVER I BET YOU DIDNT PLAY IT YOUR SUCH PS3 FANBIYS GAY FOR SONY NOM NOM THATS YOU AND SONY TOGETHER OMG GOW2 SO GOOD I MEAN I HAVNT PLED IT YET BUT THE INTRO IS AWESUM.
Just started playing it yesterday (after finally getting the correct disk from Asda). I got as far as the 3rd act of the first Level (protect the truck while it's being repaired) before Jamie and Bloodcar sent an invite to play Horde which was a great laugh, and very enjoyable.
Man, i sure miss playing with you guys. Im so far behind you lot. Im at the end of just the first act but i do love the better gfx and more evolved storyline.

We finished all 50 waves in horde. It's not easy and we died allot but it's possible with a good team. I died halfway n my team did it with 4 people. There is enough ammo, u just have to run out every now n then, grab the ammo crate n run back! Best done in pairs. U really need team players to do it. We did it in normal mode x2 multipliers.
In regards to the review, I think the score is just about fair...but forced- I don't think u wanted to give it an 8/10 and probably would have given a 7/10 but opted to play it safe.
This game is better than the bioshocks out there and I do feel perhaps from the offset it was never liked. My opinion personally it's easily a 9/10. The fun factor in co-op and multiplayer alone guaruntees this but I feel the single player is awesome too- better than the first.
Decent review, score should be higher I think ...but that's because iv always loved the concept of gow.

Ha ha ha
I wish this was on PS3, and Resistance was on Xbox. :(
3rd person shooters are pretty terrible.

Even more crazy is this:
Cost to make Gears of War 2 which sold over 2 million on the first day: $18 Million
The amount of money MS paid to Rockstar for exclusive GTA4 DLC which may not be released this year: $50 Million
That makes me LOL

So true :) plus there is laods of ammo just have to mix up your guns tbh and beat anything that comes too close.
