About the physics: It is actually more realistic for the soldier to just fall over when shot instead of flying about the place. Half Life 2 used fun Movie Physics, where shotguns are Kinetic Accelerators of Doom, but in a purpoted realism-driven game like the Rainbow Six series, such effects would be incongruous.

Only in single player my friend, check out multiplayer some time, it looks like the original xbox games... or maybe a bit worse... And since the multiplayer is where you spend most of your time you'll be looking at the alot, still good fun though. :)

Nice review however unlike the movies people dont fly 30 feet throught air when shot, even with a 50 cal Browning Rifle. They would be lucky to move much with the impact...there would be one almighty hole though.
Mythbuster tested this by hanging a 90Kg pig, they fired handguns, machine guns and high powered rifles at the swine, and it barley moved when hit.
Looks nice a nice game, would like to see it on the PC though.

I'd say there's a big difference between something hanging up and someone standing up, the human body is quite precariously balanced on it's legs, so if something knocked you back and you couldn't steady yourself because you were dead... well it would knock you back quite a bit.

Try an catch the episode, they're repeated all the time. The pig was held in place by only a couple of mm, if they poked it with a finger it feel off the hook, they then preceded to shoot it with about 700 rounds from every gun imaginable (bar a cannon) and produced no movement, and this was because most of the bullets went straight trough. It was very interesting actually, as we've all grown up with Hollywood shoot outs with people flying all over the place.
Anyway, they went out and actively proved it so unless you can present a valid argument I wouldn't dispute it :D
I still cant wait to xmas day to get my hands on my 360 with this game. I had a quick 10 minutes a week ago. Well you know, have to test that the xbox and games work as I dont want to be disapointed on xmas day :P
This game is going to be good. I love Rainbow Six. Had them all on XBOX and the original Rainbow Six on PC. Multiplayer fun :)
What I don't get is why Ubisoft always feels the need to seriously downgrade the graphics in MP? Especially the RS-series on consoles suffers from it.. You would think the Xbox 360 is powerfull enough, and games like GoW etc don't need it.. So why Ubisioft??

They retested with as close to simply standing up as it possible without sacrificing a crew member. Same results. In order for the victim to get literally blown away, the firer would have to as well (every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and all that). Of course, that only applies to weaponry that doesn't include an accelerant or explosive (so, yes, you'd get blown away if hit by a stinger missile, which has both, even though the firer just gets a bit of kickback) - until guns fire little micro-rockets, a bullet simply can't knock someone over.
In fact, I'm sure I have both the original and retest episodes of Mythbusters on my hard drive somewhere, but they more than covered that exact reaction that people had to the original test.
Anyways, that said, interesting review. Not really my style of game (anymore), but a good read.
This reminds me of the last Rainbow Six game... All flash and not much substance. What happened Tom Clancy? Where's the nailbiting 1 hit kills and split second team work of rogue spear or Raven Shield? I played Lockdown on PC and well... I should not be able to run and gun a rainbow six game. Nor should the machine gun be most effective as an automatic sniper rifle... though I must admit, what was a lot of fun was a team full of people with long barrel auto shotguns.
I disagree with the score given, I thoroughly enjoyed the game and it was well worth the money spent. The graphics and gameplay were amazing, and although I haven't played GoW since I got this for the PC, the style which you play in is addictive to say the least. Additionally, the graphics from helicopter rides down to every bit of the maps were top notch. This, for me, was a lot like the good bits of Ghost Recon and FEAR put together. 9/10 at least!
also disagree with the score. that was one of the best games i've played in the past few months. why nitpick on such issues as the bodies not flying far enough, or the opening mission not being in vegas? separate personal opinion from professional opinion. nitpicker.

Just hope it's better done than the recent Splinter Cell which was so buggy it was almost unplayable.
especially when you can do stupid stuff like trying to do the entire level Jack Bauer style with only a USP :p
