Really looking forward to getting round to playing this. The xcom;eu was awesome and sucked in many hours of my life.

Huh, thought in Europe comes on the 15th. However tonight Steam started downloading 4GB.

Its today for North America and the 15th for the ROW, the 4GB is a patch
Even though Firaxis hasn't bother to release any patch notes, or even said its a patch.

A rummage revealed as Corky says, this is a patch and likely mostly to the video/FMV. I hope it enables me to actually play EU - I've had it since summer and can't get it to run (it's the only game I own which fails)...

It's not really base defence if you aren't defending your base, is it?

It's a defensive mission with a set tileset and, likely, layout each time. In a narrative context, it is a base defence mission. In actuality it is just another defensive mission with a different tileset.

Well you are defending your base, just not the one you built your self. Due to the nature of the Unreal engine all maps have to be designed and cant be procedurally generate.

That line was apparently meant to be removed before being sent for publication. There is indeed base defense. The article has now been corrected.

Adrenal glands?

No, that's just stupid. The whole point of the first, and best, xcom game was that it was you with basic earth tech against the bugs. Point clearly missed, I fear.

That's just your opinion and frankly, mine is that if that's what you thought the point was, you missed the point.

Original X-COM tech. Like Elerium 115, Avenger multi-role spacecraft, laser rifles and most importantly, Psionics? All were integral parts of the original game and none of those are basic Earth tech, which renders your point moot.
