I played it all the way through, doesn't take any thought at all really, and once you've upgraded your ship you can kill anything easily, the land segments are a pain and desperately need a save point option, can't have been too bad though as I did play it all the way through, also suffers from frame stuttering to an extent although the patches seem to have at least stopped it freezing up all together. At the end of the day, cheap game, looks nice and a reasonable if repetitive time waster :).
if it's anything like sid meiers' pirates, I'll skip
it looks just like it really.. the age thing was kind of interesting though- after years of ramming into ships and tossing the captain overboard your character got old.. the land rescues were pretty bad too
played a lot of pirates though, I'll admit xD there's something about a crappy game that has pirates in it
"For some time now, the writers of bit-tech and bit-gamer havent been entirely satisfied that the current scoring system (scoring out of 10) enabled us to clearly communicate the subtle difference between the products we review every day"
One of the flaws with Bit-Gamer is you seem to feel you have to produce new content daily. But your not prepared to allocate the time for writers to produce anything worth while.
If you need filler, why not let some of the attention starved forum grommits do reader reviews, it'd probably generate more page hits for your advertising.

^ this.
What actually warranted the 60%?
According to the "Score Guide":
An overall score of 50 per cent means that the hardware or game being reviewed is as mediocre as they come. Unless one of the breakdown scores is particularly high we wouldn't recommend buying anything that scores 50 per cent or less.
So... you're saying this is an above average game? What on earth have you been playing that brings your "average" so low?

Basically Bauul had the right of it. Both words mean the same thing. But to many people Average is a subjective thing where as Mediocre is not, even though both words mean the same.
So it should be (to use your explanation): Awful > Poor > Average > Good > Great
There's way too few decent pirate games so I'm a sucker whenever things like this comes out. I played it a little and it seems like a wannabe reboot of Sid Meiers Pirates. I wasn't a massive fan of the on-land sections but that's also true for the Sid Meiers game

Semantics.
50% is average, by definition... so 60% must be above average...
The average game might be quite a bit better than a mediocre one.
