My comments are limited due to not wanting to seem gloatful, although I do discuss the game on the Podcast.
Basically, the most valuable resource in the game was trust. I trusted Jamie implicitly, sharing all my tech, all my knowledge and all my plans from day 5 onwards. Because I wasn't worried about my ally betraying me, I could instead focus on Intergalactic genocide. I care little for the level of bitterness from my crushed foes - all it could have taken was one strong alliance of 2 or 3 players to swing the balance of the game. Instead everyone argued, rowed and betrayed each other as Jamie and I devoured the galaxy piecemeal.
Also I obsessed about the game to a frankly dangerous degree. Always helpful.
Thanks bit-tech for bringing this game to my attention. The war diaries were a great idea. Ive just finished my 1st free game, and the other paid game is under way. For strategy fans it is great, but time consuming. You feel the need to micro manage your fleets (and this can be required to ensure victory)... plus you will instantly log on at pay time to spend your monies ! A time sink for sure, but an enjoyable one.
Is it possible to follow up with the developers to see where they are taking this game now -eg. extra features ? After all, they kinda owe you one for all the publicity you have given them !
Like lewchenko said, I want to thank you (I think) for bringing this game to my attention - although due to the time-sink factor involved I won't be sharing it with that many people, as it really does suck up your free time to an inordinately unhealthy degree. Saying that, I'm 2 wins for 2 games and quite happy with that!
The war diaries were a good idea too, nice to see some of the character types in the bit-tech office.
If I could elaborate a little on the 'trust' issue though: It's not about trusting other people, it's about getting them to trust you. :)
In my first game my main opponent got as high as 82 stars, (88 for a win) - at which point I upped everyone else's tech for free, (some by as much as seven jumps) and they all turned on him.
In my second game I started off dead-centre which I thought was going to be a nightmare, but I soon got everyone distrusting everyone else. Towards the end I was the best part of 600 ships behind, masses behind in economy & industry, and then managed to coax everyone into an all-out war with each-other, all while I sat back and watched them decimate themselves - before kindly sweeping up afterwards...
Great fun!
It's just a pity there isn't a speeded-up version which can be played in a single evening, because as it is, I can't see myself ever playing with people I know.
Trust hah! Well I did get second place but my allied chosed to attack and betray me in the end! I trusted him 100% and gave him everything, but suddenly i noticed that he started to build a lot of economy, industry and science. As I was fighting out last opponent, he went behind and stabbed me hard in the back! Backstabbing is a bitch :-D
