Wow didn't realise this was out now. I preordered it as soon as I found out (and now have a spare copy of MI1SE) but thought there was a bit more of a wait. Will definitely get into it tonight as I never played through this one properly.
@Joe: I'm surprised they let you out of your cage to review this one, but I don't think I'd disagree that this game is awesome!
Going to have a to wait a while to play this. I still haven't played the first re-release, but I just picked them both up for £6.99 on Steam last week so I'm very much looking forward to reliving some memories!
Been playing MI:2 for the past two days and it is indeed excellent, and nostalgia inducing (I remember playing it when it first came out on the Amiga - it came on 11 floppies!)
Next up - an Indiana Jones & The Fate of Atlantis remake please :)
Just going to but this on Steam (I've never played a M.I. game before, even though I'm a "seasoned" PC gamer)! All I can find is Monkey Island 2 Special Edition LeChuck's Revenge. Is this the right title, and being a M.I. virgin should I be starting here or should I buy the earlier games in the series first?

That is the correct title - The Secret of Monkey Island 2: Lechuck's Revenge Special Edition. What a mouthful.
You don't need to play the first one, but it is a good game too. There's only two real plot points that you need to know to understand everything in Monkey Island 2. Namely...
Guybrush Threepwood defeated the Ghost Pirate Lechuck, who fancies Governor Elaine.
And Guybrush and Elaine fall in love at the end of Monkey Island 1
Just finished this one tonight, it was fantastic. I love being able to toggle back to the original at any point just to marvel at how well the world has been re-imagined.
I'm hoping another re-make of a Lucasarts classic is on the cards soon. I'd love to see an updated Day of the Tentacle or something!
WOW! I absolutely love this game, I've played through it at least 30 or 40 times and even talked (forced) my newly wed wife play through all the TSOMI-games...

Hehe, completely agree. Can't believe I completed this game as a twelve year old, but I can't go for longer then ten minutes without the hint button now :)
I wish they had taken a leaf out of Machinarium's book and made you play a mini-game before you got your hints. As it is, it's too easy to press that 'H' key for people of limited willpower - like me ;)
Does it still have the horrible new controlmethod of the prvious Special Edition? I played half way the last one before i got too frustraded with it and quit. Since then i just havent gotten around to playing it again...much because of the rubbish interface.
I think someone (or everyone) is going to throw rocks at me, but i really don't think it deserves a 10.
Sometime ago, I was complaining that FO3 have nothing (aside the special system) to do with the previous ones, and ppl started to throw rocks at me because "a game need to evolute". FO3 got a +- 9 score.
And here we are athe the review of MI2. It's the same game with a graphic revamp and some minor tweaks. I've played Day of the Tentacle, Kyrandia, Indianna jones and the Fate of atlantis, kings quest when they first went at the market, but never actually played MI2 back then.
The game have some nice looking graphics, some really funny lines, nice music but that's all. The animations are still lame, walking arround isn't very fine, the pace of the game is too slow and i won't talk about the "back and forth" walking arround collecting itens to see if they fit somewhere.
"Blasphemy! That's a Lucasarts classic! It's an adventure! Bla bla bla".
Ok! It's a classic adventure with LOTS of fans. And it's a fun game too! But it IS outdated. It IS kinda boring. No inovations added just some tweaks.
I think the game deserves a 8,0 or 8,5 (afterall it is a GREAT reavamp) but NEVER a 10.
@Yemerich - Truthfully, I think you're right. Personally, if I hadn't played MI:2 when it first came out on the Amiga, and was coming to it anew, I'd probably have thought it deserved an eight or less. But it gets a ten from me purely for nostalgic reasons. I had a great time completing it when it first came out, and playing it with all new graphics excites me. Similarly, if Day of the Tentacle or Fate of Atlantis were remade, I'd love them in the same way ;)

Best game ever imo
