As much as it shames me, I've never played any of the series either. I'll definitely have to pick this up in the near future, I've got to see what all the fuss is about!
8/10 or not, I'm still getting it.
Now, how about a reworking of "Day of the Tentacle" .... :-) (yes, Monkey Island is good, but DotT is still one of my all-time favourites)
July is turning out to be one of the awsomest months this year: a veritable glut of Lucasarts adventuriness. I'm so giddy, I may have to go and lie down :D

It looks bloody awful! And I'm talking about the 'updated' flash-a-like version..! Do yourself a favour and play it with the original graphics and immerse yourself in a true classic.
Must-buy! Will buy!
As soon as I get back to Austria and I have my computer up and running again [arrives on Friday after shipping it from Bath to Vienna] I'll have to make a couple of purchases on Steam. Namely: Monkey Island: SE and both Indy games.
Did some cheeky downloading of Tales of Monkey Island to check it out, liked and will buy come pay day. And waiting for Steam to finish downloading this! I imagine LucasArts will be making some serious moolah this month!
Tales of monkey island worked fine, but this one won't run on my main pc (blank black screen and hangs) or my laptop (MISE.exe has encountered a problem...)

You DO know that not having played them disqualifies you immediately from being a forum member, right?
First time Ive played this since my Amiga bit the dust in 95 and was surprised on how much of it I still remembered after all these years.
The world would have been a better place if LucasArts had carried on producing games of this calibre, instead of churning out a decade of soulless Star Wars dross (KOTOR1 excluded).
All I need now is a decent Grim Fandango rehash/sequel and I can die a happy man.

Updated both of those, still crashes/hangs instantly on both my laptop and main PC.
A fair few on the steam forums are reporting similar probs.
Not sure yet if it's just a win7 issue (concerning if it is, considering it's imminent release) or something else.
first game i've seen released in the past 3-5 years and doesn't like win7... worrying if you ask me.
no other game has had a problem, what makes a game like this have a problem?

Surely having not played the earlier ones makes you the prime candidate to enjoy this one?
Being a long time fan of the Monkey Island series (and Lucas Arts Point and Click Adventures in general), I can honestly say that this is the best game I have ever downloaded from XBLA.
I'm looking forward to/hoping for a remake of LeChuck's Revenge and Day of the Tentacle, my two other favourites.

Or maybe not. It's not like X-Com: Terror from the Deep was any good either.
Oh no he din't!
Joe i presume you've played it and your score would have been a 10? Good review bindi, much easier than gfx card testing....:)
I have played it and I'll be blogging about it in the near future, rest assured.

how about MI 2 and 3? will they get a remake? it'd be great to have all monkey island games in one art style.

Although I might wait until Steam does a big Lucasarts pack. Actually, wasn't MI1 made by Lucasfilm?
