Well I enjoy BH a lot. The battlefunds don't interest me all that much as I don't see the need to buy silly outfits. I enjoy the quick games that BH offer and I don't care about dying so often. For a free game it's very good.
Typically EA, only they could manage to ruin a free game. Shame really i was half looking forward to this. What i want to know is who paid good money for the guns.
I like BFH, its a simple quick game for when steam says 'Steam could not connect to steam servers' like it seems to do EVERY night during peak hours, although I think that is Pipex, sorry tiscali, sorry Talk Talk fault.
The BF are not important at all, the maps are small and boring, and you do die a lot, the tanks are **** at hitting player, and snipers are overpowered and the planes are hard to drive (Might just be me) but its a quick game. The account is what is putting me off at mo, I always get 1001 error and have to launch the game again when finding a server, i think this a talk talk again tho.
My mistake i presume there are other weapons to buy other than guns then

in all honesty, the first time i played BH, i was very dissapointed, but then, i've been playing it for at least a few months now since the Beta invites started circulating.
the game *is* shallow, and it *is* simple. but when you have a world full of games that punish your every single mistake and drive you crazy, why can't there be a game that is very easy to just pop into and have some *fun*.
with any game, it's the way that you play it. If you have played commando in BH and have troop trap, then you will know what i'm talking about. i've literally fallen over laughing after sending some wise-cracking so-and-so 100 feet into the air after creeping up behind them, and then waving at their corpse as they float down to earth.
Hmm, been in the beta for a while now and it still holds some attraction - fast games, it doesn't matter if you die, easy access for non-geek gamers...
Some of the things you slam BFH for can be seen as an advantage from a different viewpoint.
However, EA support, random crashes, glitches and an excess of hackers does severely blight the game
I tried it. The graphics are cute, but it just *feels* like one of those crappy Korean games where you can't adjust the resolution or keybinds or anything. (In BF:H you can adjust those, but not much more!) The few options you *do* have are only adjustable in the front end, not in-game.
The third-person view is annoying, and the FOV is lower than I'm used to, making the game feel "zoomed in." The on-screen guides are helpful, but the game *really* needs a minimap.
If I can get kicked for my ping, I really need to be able to see it! Also, server browser plz?
Lastly, I fear the freeness biases the age demographic really young. I'd rather pay to play a game with fewer children.
I'm now really looking forward to Battlefield 1943.
I think the review is a bit harsh. Like it and others say, it is simple and shallow, but that's what it's meant to be. I can have a quick game and really am not worried about dieing like I am in every other online game (TFC/TF2 and AA2.5 would make me so angry when I didn't have at least a 2:1 kill-death ratio). It's fun and fast paced, and as kamikaze said there is quite a bit of strategy in the game.
And there seem to be plenty of players. I also like there not being any voice chat. No matter what game I play it's always some 10 year old screaming like an idiot (yes you can usually block individuals, but it's very annoying nonetheless). Besides I don't think voice chat is all that important for this game. If you do want it, 3rd party voice chat programs are usually far better anyway.
So far the only thing I don't like is the lack of a server browser. However this does get me playing faster, as I don't spend forever looking for a "good" server. And besides last night, I haven't had any connection issues.
BFH was designed for you to be able to join a game with your girl like most World of Warcrafters could do... it's simple, it's shallow but it's also a good way to get into shooters since it doesnt punish your every mistake(though it does, you should play against me and then rewrite that part).
On the other hand we got the ARMA review which I was VERY EXCITED to try after the score I saw... All I saw was stupid bots in a coop-mp game. It's not even playable with such stupid bots, I'd rather play the "also-indie-developed-BF2-Mod" called Project Reality which really puts excitement into realistic milsim as you called it.
... Then again, everyone has his own opinion... but this was viewed from a very stiff standpoint.
"... Then again, everyone has his own opinion... but this was viewed from a very stiff standpoint" ..... Completely agree, specially in sites like bit-tech.net!
Don't get me wrong guys, I'm a hardcore geeky gamer as yourselves and most of the time I agree with all of your game reviews. However i DO know that this site (and the whole community around it) offers a very subjective point of view. That being said, this game wasn't designed for us. Joe points it out at the beginning the review too!
It's shallow, bland, offer's no sense of achievement whatsoever... Then again, it's quick, colorful, funny and most important of all.... FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I followed this from it's initial announcement way back when and it seems I have been sorely let down. I am waiting for BF1943, BF3 and BFBC2, all of which will be available on PC and are sure to be awesome lol.
I played the game for a day and all i can say that BF Heroes was one of the worst games i've ever played. The browser/game engine is totally crappy.
All i can is compare this to Quake live. Quake live is SO much better in every way. BF- Heroes seems like they have made the browser end just to piss off people where QL is really a "browser" game.

Right, so all female gamers must inherently require simple, shallow games, because they are genetically predisposed to being less intelligent than the mighty cheeriokilla? Right?
I know plenty of girls (no jokes!) who play the same games I do, my GF is particularly fond of L4D.
Or maybe I'm reading too much into your statement?

I knew this would pop up since I mentioned FEMALES as a general group of women who mostly don't enjoy shooters, which is in fact, kind of true. I also have friends in TF2 which are females and my girlfriend LOVES L4D... but she HATES Battlefield 2 and she HATES Battlefield 2142, but mysteriously she loves BF:H... If you're offended by the generalization of women and gaming then my message is not to you obviously because you are not the mass to which I'm referring to...
I can say that as to men in flamenco dancing, dude it's not that common, ppl do it, but it's not common... k? k

ReplyI gave up, and it seems like I wasn't missing much.
Wow.
Whoops - I thought I switched that link out. I've done so now, though Don't **** Your Pants is still a very fun game.

I wanted to try it aswell, which reminds me, I need to play Quake online
EDIT: Also nice of you to include FEAR Combat, that never even came to mind when I thought of free online games :D

i'll say it again. it's how you play.

Game sucks ass.
Why don't EA listen to what people want and stop making crap?
It most certainly was not either of the two.
