a far better review than i was expecting, i reckon i'll probs give this a go. never really bothered with the first one, it always just looked like a DX10 showcase to me
Nah i just never get round to playing any thing since i usually end up just loading tf2 when ever i turn on my xp box, i keep trying to wean my self off it with other games but short of going cold turkey and not playing any games i just end up with pyro making bbqs...
Played the first one repeatedly...and then a few more times when the DX10 patch was released. Great stuff. Considering the gun was king in the old West, it is surprising how few wild west titles have been released. Shame Steam wants £35 for it. Will have to see what Game are charging.
Just got this today. Can't say I'm that impressed so far tbh, but I will have to play a bit more (only played for 1hr 30mins). I just feel it doesn't have anyway near as much charm as the first game had.
sat down and beat it on normal difficulty today.. took 6 hours 18 minutes- the first part is pretty boring up until you hit that town in arkansas.. that was alot of fun =] graphics aren't that great- I mean the blur effects are alright and the engine is decent (16q aa 16x af @1080p on a 260).. but alot of the stuff like the ground and how they litter cactus all over some parts just wasn't believable..
plus the tear jerker doesn't work with this one like the first one.. I actually found myself attached to ray in the original cause of the way he yelled billlley! lol I dunno why- this prequel does have some really cool content though.. mixed bag- but worth a playthrough imo especially if you've played the first one.. the hardest part would have to be the quickdraw against another guy- found I had to adjust my g5 mouse sensitivity on the fly to give the swift kick and move on.. probably easier on a 360 controller
This game sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo needs co-op!
Otherwise, I'm really enjoying it. Played it through as Thomas (really love the Injun bow and the lasso) in about seven hours and now I've just started again as Ray.
Is it just me or does anyone else want to just shoot William in the face?
Rather than start a new thread.
(Everything that follow is just my opinion, seriously.)
Bought it off Steam. It's a poor console port imo.
The graphics on the PC version are arse compared to other games of the day. Even the aging Source engine kicks this in the wedding vegetables (we're talking 2004 vintage.) The over-done bloom and aggressive LOD make me wonder is this is what it's like to have cataracts.
Voice acting is good, but the aggressive audio compression make it sound like you're listening to voices on your grandma's gramophone.
There is no mouse smoothing and the sensitivity is out. It like dragging your mouse through gravel.
And the pew-pew-pew is totally Call of Duty. At one point (the mines) I kept thinking of the shooting sections from Rayman Raving Rabbids; the ones where you bean Rabbids in the face with a plunger.
I guess what it comes down to is that it might be fine on Xbox ro PS3, but PC game it ain't. The most I got out of it was 20 minutes of walking round the house speaking in a Southern accent telling people they didn't give me the credence I deserve. And 'draw!'
you mean you didn't use the word gringo at all? shame on you!
played it a bit at a friends, they managed to do the nigh on impossible. They made reverend Ray even damned cooler (he was clearly channeling Mal at some points :))
yeah william was annoying, and clearly inspired by paul dano in There will be blood

It's like you've been taken over by the spirit of a 1920's flapper girl doing the Charleston. An interesting if not flawed tactic in a fire fight.

Um, I was playing it again last night and I'm pretty sure that's not entirely true when you're on foot and it's definitely not true when you're on horseback.

apparantly only on the pc game reviews tough.
Actually it never went away, it's been running on the site in certain sections for a while.
How long until its released?
been looking at the trailers and they've basically ripped off characters from "for a few dollars more" ...and that makes me absolutely overjoyed!

great review again Joe, and i was loving your humour too, the caption under the first pic made me laugh out loud :D
It looks pretty good, I'd be interested to try it once I see it on sale :)
Is that sarcasm? :P
BTW, why this game review was online, then offline and now online again?
We got the date of the embargo wrong, so had to take it down for a few days.
Was thinking of picking up Bound in blood, I enjoyed the first one.
Still, if a game's good a game's good. I like the first one quite a bit too.
Definitely going to get this one as I loved the first one so much - such a refreshing change from all those other FPS clones!
