Yes it must be because it does not even deserve to be on the list.
It uses a more advanced environmental engine, and the best fire physics to date. But all the glitter and no story and mind dumbing repetitive missions makes it flop in my eyes.
There was so much potential for FC2 game to be ground breaking :(

FarCry 2 is victim of it's own greatness. The game is huge, the scenario is huge. Unfortunately this made the game too repetitive and boring at times. But as joe said, it is true that the game has MANY inovations. It deserves the position it gets.
I just don't agree with dead space and fallout 3. Dead space is the most annoying game i played this year. It's really slow, the camera is just stupidly placed. Many can argue that it's innovative way to think about the camera. but i think it's like some guy take the closing "X" in the up-right corner of aplications in the Windows OS and put in middle of the bottom window a "closing w" saying it's innovative. It's just against usability, not amazing.
FO3 it's just a huge deception. Everything looks like melted plastic in the game, the animation is awfull and all the misplaced head blowing and such is just NOT fallout... The outdatet engine is clearly seen in here. The dialogs and story are poorly written. Heck, the game doesn't even have that 50's appeal it used to! Tha game deserves a third place, i agree, IF IT'S compared as whole new game, like TES5: Mad Max. IMHO beth should be ashamed for calling this game one of the FO franchise.
Again (waiting for the rocks to be thrown) IT IS a good game. It's just not FO series...
And i know lots of ppl will say it's a blockbuster and sold millions more than previous FO.
IN TIME, about GTA IV:
Quote:
We’ll be honest here and say that we’re frankly very surprised to see this game make the list, let alone place so highly. Not because the game is at all bad admittedly, just because of how controversial and hated the bloatware and protection systems surrounding the title are.
That's because everyone pirated this one to see if it's up for the hype :P
And in doing so, skiped all the bloatware and protections...
...And thinking quite a few of these games are available on Steam...Valve is really quite a giant in the industry, making and distributing games.
Congrats on the list !
I know what I'm going to play with my new PC when I get it...already got l4d, Audiosurf, Fallout 3 and Farcry 2. I've already finished GTA on a friend's PS3 so I won't bother.
Whew, another year done and another 365 days of gaming content faithfully represented, critiqued and ripped apart for your reading pleasure. Now, we’re all tuckered out.
Er...this was a leap year so surely there was an extra day of gaming? :D
I expected Fallout 3 to win with L4D behind and GTA 4 deserves to be kicked out of the top ten simply because of its very nasty copy protection system that manages to upset even the most patient honest customer.
Other than that, I think it came out pretty much as I hoped (and voted xD).
L4D is great, and i voted for it, but top of my list is where my time has gone, my online profile has over 7 days racked up, regularly hit the multiplayer euro touring car championships, and for once in my life i'm good at something, rofl.
great, great game, gorgeous graphics, and overall best replayability of any game i have owned for my PC, since quake.

Depends,
The original was released in 07, then in 08 they re released it as a enhanced edition (basically what the game should have been from the start, but wasnt due to rushed release).
However, dont agree with the inclusion in the Top 10 of PC games of limited activations Securom infected games: Dead Space, Warhead and FC2. Mass Effect escapes as it is now available through Steam.
And GTA4 is a total pig to run.
What happened to Spore?
Not that I liked it that much, but It seemed that most people did.
For me Stalker: Clear Sky would get a place in the top ten, but overall it seems a reasonable line-up.
Thumbs up for (more) ground breaking games in 2009!
i would rank dead space a little higher, GTA a little (or a lot) lower, and FarCry at bottom 10. i love it, but it can get repetitive quite a bit. great story tbh and a harsh reality i can relate to. dead space was near perfect... if only i can jump.... lol

Totally agree that L4D is the GOTY-2008.

Missing in the list is World of Goo.
