Well I'm still debating getting this.
Based on Oblivion : No
Based on Console Interface : No, shame I'd like to support the PC version.
Based on character skills actually having meaning : Yes - More a case of Morrowind with guns \o/ ;)
Based on dialogue and plot : Won't know till I play it, opinions I've read differ and I don't want to delve into spoiler territory.
Oh well, there's always Red Alert or the GoodOldGames option or I could even wait until I've finished X3:TC.
Never ever played any of the Fallout games and know very little of the storyline or setting. Will I be fine starting out with Fallout 3 or will I end up feeling like I'm missing huge chunks of the story?
You can just wiki the back story to understand how the Vaults, the Brotherhood, the landscape etc etc play into the game. Fallout 3 changes the story up a bit and they don't explain why certain things exist/happened.
I agree with Lepermessiah.
i bought FarCry2 off steam (very expensive it was too US$54.99) and found out that it is basically a huge multiplayer map.
the missions quite happily send you off to the other side of the map, so you can go back thru all the checkpoints you have just cleared...
Far Cry original was brilliant...
I loved Oblivion, but Fallout3 looks too RPG-y for me...I don't mind a little bit of it, but i'm not a D&D fan, or Diablo etc...
Woo-Hoo! Can't wait. I'm still chipping away at Fable 2. New tires for my car or Fallout 3? Decisions, Decisions! Not like I'll be driving anywhere anyway if im sitting at home playing this game....
Still waiting for my copy to arrive, stupid preoder at game, but it was cheaper and saved me the strange looks from the employes when buying pc games.
Looks like a great game, shame they screwed up the ui though.
What sort of drm does them game have? I only have phoneternet at the moment, so can't do any online activation rubbish. Is it just disk-in-drive? I've seen mixed reports.
I've been playing the review copy since Joe finished his review, and have to say this game is awesome. You can play it as a ball out FPS if you really want, but the VATs system works perfectly too if you'd rather have some RPG tastiness too.
I'm about 10 hours in and have only scratched the surface - there are plenty of side quests to do to keep you busy, rather than just blitzing through the story line.
I'm somewhat regretting my career choice though - speech medicine and lock picking might help me talk my way out of combat, but isn't so useful fighting off super mutants!

BTW, HL would make a really nice RPG!
I don't care if the graphics are too grey or washed out! Well, maybe a little...But I wan't to play a good game not repetitive as Far Cry 2!
People would really **** if they left the turn-based system in the game like in the originals. I'm sure you know but Fallout has always been a RPG with a turn based system until this current mess they call Fallout 3.

People would love it, well, atleast I would, turn based ftw

Is the actual FPS shooting good? I heard it takes longer to kill in FPS mode. xD
I have the game on pre-order ready to pick-up now but I'm not so sure.
honestly, as someone who generally hates RPGs, this game is pretty good
the single complaint i can come up with atm is that manual shooting seems to do way less damage than VATS, which is annoying
but VATS gives you hilarious screenshot opportunities with all kinds of awesome gore :D
you can still move around in first person view and from that respect its just like a FPS, except changing weapons is a bit more convoluted

It is an RPG; it just happens to be in the first person.
So we have FPS players complaining it is too much RPG, and hardcore fallout veterans/purist RPGers complaining that it's not turn-based and isometric. I don't think Bethesda are going to win this one!
Personally, I think it sounds great (apart from the consol-ification)... I just hope Gamestation deliver on time (still marked as 'processing').

I really don't understand the need for swearing in video games...

LOL, thanks CardJoe

PS:
