And I do think this game will be out this year, it's been pushed back heaps already... It feels like the game of 08 to me :D

Ep3 will be on the source engine, but i suspect that'll be the last one. jeez can you imagine how long it would take to get that last episode out if they were developing a new engine first! I remember reading somewhere that for HL3 they wanted to develop a new engine.

Half-Life 3 isn't confirmed yet and Valve has said they will only decide on whether to do a whole new game or continuing episodes after Ep3. If they stay episodic they won't use a new engine IMHO as it won't be worth the effort especially when the Source engine was designed to be so modular.

It is showing it's age a bit, but I think a revamp of the engine would do wonders. I still think the games look really good as well, I prefer it that valve try and concentrate on the gameplay rather than trying to make it as shiny as possible.

Joe, my envy that you have gotten to play this game can only be described as EPIC.
