I want FHM to send me my copy already goddamnit! I played through Condemned 1 about four times and it kept it's pant wateringly scariness (and almost stomach churning end boss) every single time. I just hope Monoliths project origin will keep up to the same level which, (if you believe Fahey & Monolith) will require adult diapers.
will. 10th April 2008, 09:15 Quote

Been playing this for a couple f days and I have to stop if it's midnight and no one else around - It ready is pant wettingly scary.

I think it's a shame they dumped the old 45-50 year old Ethan for this younger punk, part of the appeal of the original was the fact that the hero (you) wasn't your usual grizzled action hero, he was a flawed old man. Now he's just generic. Fortunately you forget about that quite quickly.

Darkedge: It's the same guy, shortly after the original

His character has changed substantially though. I felt that the change worked well for the most part, though there were a few bits I thought were un-subtle and emo. Like when he introduces himself - "Thats me, Ethan Thomas. Drunk and pissed offf!".

Sigh.

Thankfully, it picks up very quickly.

It's supposed to be the same guy but he has a different face, has gained back a fair bit of hair and lost about 15--20 years of age despite spending 8 months in the gutter as a drunk... Same name but it's a bit like the change in the prince from sands of time to warrior within

had my eye on this but was put off by a mag review of 5/10 (iirc). but sound like it could tide me over another fortnight until GTA:IV is out.
great review ;)

WHAT?!?! Another game w/o a version for PC? I can't believe it...

I am beginning to think if it was a good idea to buy a 8800gts, as the last good game i played was Jericho...
CardJoe 10th April 2008, 14:27 Quote
A) PC version coming later maybe, as it did with the original.
B) Jericho was pants.

I think the massive change is good, it shows what getting down on your luck, feeling sorry for yourself, and then abusing your body does to you.

Any PC version coming out soon? This summer needs something to make me scared shitless of going downstairs to the kitchen at night.

Judging by what Darkedge has been saying it makes you look 15-20 years younger, grow back your hair and generally look like a "grizzled" action hero.

I hope it comes to PC soon! I am a huuuuge fan of Condemned! Monolith rocks!

But i have to disagree about jericho. It lacks some level design, but the game is wonderfull. Sure those exploding dudes are annoying, but those bosses are the best design in a long time. The scenarios are very beautifull too. Almost no replayability, and awfull ending.

Not a fantastic game but a real good one. :D

PS: Had a hard time finding out what "pants" mean... :/

I never thought he looked old in the first one TBH. In both he looks kind of thirty something, but where he was neat and plain looking before he's know stubbley, greasy and covered in bruises.
DougEdey 11th April 2008, 08:19 Quote
He looked quite young in the first, as Joe says, very late twenties.
CardJoe 11th April 2008, 08:31 Quote
It's hard to tell - in the first one they used a grainy filter whenever you really saw his face. Character have changed a fair bit though - Rosa used to be fat.
DougEdey 11th April 2008, 09:42 Quote
Nothing wrong with some weightloss to a healthy figure, I'd say that Rosa has lost a lot of years (still waiting on my copy) but I think her hair getting longer makes me think it's more like Rosas daughter then Rosa herself, is it the same voice actress?

Is it me or is this the worst graphics i ever seen in a blockbuster game the past 3 years ? I just played the demo and i wasn't that scared, more like bored from the ammounts of black(tar) in my screen. Even the tar guys that attacked me seemed more like shadows .
FaIIen 13th April 2008, 22:00 Quote
let me put it this way...even my vomit after eating lamp stew would look better than this game. I'm sorry , for me it's an epic fail.
CardJoe 13th April 2008, 22:53 Quote
The black tar certainly annoyed me a little at first, but I don't think it was bad looking - though I had my monitor set up wrong and did think so at first. By getting the brightness set right I was able to see a lot clearer.

I certainly wouldn't say the graphics are bad though, I actually think they are very good. Sure, they don't put Crysis to shame, but they are at least on par with the UT3 engine in my book and the detail of the character animation pushes it past that in my book.
