got the game, installed no problem. but get a large amount of tearing even with VSYNC enabled in the options menu (and everything else on highest possible). any way to solve this?

Is the Xbox DX9 only?

Yes. On all games TMK.

It's similar to DX9, but there are differences in the programming model that mean it isn't simply DX9. For a start, it's a unified programming model (something that DX9 certainly isn't, even though you can use a unified GPU architecture in DX9) and the rasteriser is located off-die in the 10MB eDRAM (DX9 doesn't support such a thing).

Image quality wise though, you'll not see massive differences in shader quality. Texture quality is obviously dependent on framebuffer that's available (with the 360, there's only 512MB of system memory in total, which is shared between CPU and GPU).

latest beta driver by nVidia apparently optimised for Timeshift and Crysis, although Crysis did see an improvement, Timeshift won't even launch now :|

but yes, i suspect they are the latest drivers.

It's f*ked. Crashes all over the place.

And most disturbingly this is on a virgin XP install. I re-installed XP on Saturday after upgrading to a c2d processor. All latest drivers, shiny as a new pin. (Radeon X1900XT fyi)

I'd urge anyone considering this to wait for a patch, keep an eye on the epic boards.

;(

I originally tried running it with the latest Nvidia Beta drivers (169.04), but it kept crashing back to the desktop (without warning).
So I uninstalled those last night, and tried the last WHQL drivers (163.71 XP), but there's no difference. It still crashed almost immediately (whilst still in the jail cell) :(

Judging from what I've been reading as well though... it's not a drivers specific problem, since those of us who are experiencing crashes (and we're not an insignificant number!), all have different hardware specs.
It doesn't matter what hardware you're using, unfortunately. Even if everything you're using is bang up-to-date... it's simply hit or miss whether the game runs - or crashes. There's no [obvious] determining factor?

Which (I suspect) is gonna make finding out what's causing the problem(s) very hard to track down... so I'm personally not expecting to see a 'patch/fix' any time soon - sadly... no matter how desperately it's needed by a large number of us :(

I've got this on the 360 at the shop. Love this game! It will be nice to play on home PC now.

I don't know if anyone else is having the same problem but I have lost all my campaign data and all I can play is act 1 and 5. The farthest I got was the start of 4. Yes I have a Live account. And yeah, Microsoft has no support for the PC game and what I did find says theirs a program error and cant submit the trouble ticket to Microsoft Support.

Well, unsurprisingly, i'm thoroughly enjoying this game. It took me a while to get used to the double tapping but now it all feels like second nature. It plays so well with keyboard and mouse that i've not even tried it with my 360 controller. Hats off to Epic for getting it right in that department. I also like the way your AI team mates are actually useful. I feel like i'm part of a team and not just leading a few stupid bots. The AI is far better than Rainbow 6 Vegas and both GRAW's in this repect imo.

The graphics are amazing, the best i've seen on PC. The ruined city at the start is just without equal. The size and scale of the crumbling buildings are just awesome, even moreso than the impressive city section of Lost Planet. Some of the effects going on gives everything a realistic look and the character models are great!

I was worried about performance but it plays very well on my pc. Running smooth with textures to 'high', shadows to 'medium' everything else maxed and v-sync on (bad tearing without) @ 1440x900. Running it on XP with Cat 7.10 and not had any stuttering ingame or any crashes whatsoever so far.

So all in all it's a great game and, imo, the best game of the year so far.

Bought it friday and played almost all weekend, sunday night i finished the game. The graphics looks impressive. Loved the water effects, All the structural architecture. All that debris lying everwhere, really made it look like there has been a major war. I even managed to look through the third person thing i hate. I had no crash or anything that would look like a bug/crash. I played it on 2 2gb/amd x2 4400/xfx8800GTX/Vista system on 1650res, everything high with postprocces and no dx10 mode/no aa, could not see any dx10 bennifit or usefullness of aa on 1650res

There are however 3 flaws in the game.

Flaw 1: Its very very very repetitive. Maybe console players like to do the same thing over and over again but I liked to be surprised. Its walking in nice city and seeing the same person around every corner.

Flaw 2: They forced me to put up some sort of Microsoft Live online profile, find a way to do this offline. But then in the end i found out it does not 'unlock' anything at all. So my quests to find all those hidden cogs and to do some 'unlock objectives' turned out to be useless also. It could have saved me hours of searching.

Flaw 3: The story is, hmm.... well you start and all i could think off was, why is the city like this, why are these creatures want to fight me, where am i? (on earth/mars/ other galaxy) why was i in prison, where are all the civilians. And in the end i still dont know the why.

The only thing that i actualy liked was the level design/graphics.
