However short portal may have been, compared to most other source games, the maps will be relatively easy to make using hammer. We shall see lots of community built maps I would think!

I'm looking forward to the community maps, and for the portal gun to appear in HL2. Joe, I played portal first and still found myself disappointed. I found that it started to drag on at the end and got really boring. I hope whatever's next for portal is longer, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it ties with HL2 beyond what Ep. 2 showed.

How can you review portal without mentioning the completely awesome final credit sequence? I have that song on my MP3 player now :D

because we can."

I've only got one thing to say.

The cake is a lie.

Loved portal. Everything is so great about it. The game, the mechanics, the "plot", the humor, the turrets ("I don't blame you")...

Excellent !

Seconded :D

I'll put down the Portal ending and end credits down as being the funniest i've ever seen in any game

Also i for some reason have taken a real shine to portal. played an hour or so of EP2, but already on a second run through of portal

Portal was realy impressive, tough a little short... so fingers crossed and hoping for more bonus maps ^_^
Personally I played portal first and liked it that way . I saw it as a warmup for EP:Two. But either way is fine.

An amazing fresh air for first-person shooter.
Great idea!

There's a whole thread of cool quotes from the game at http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=609527
It's nice.

Spoiler tags people pleeease! Most people won't want to have the ending ruined before they start playing the game.

We are sorry to inform that this next test. Is impossible. Please make no attempt to complete it.

Portal is going to get some awesome merch at the valve store!

Also: anyone else getting really really annoyed with the challenge levels? I'm going mad trying to do level 18 with the least amount of portals!!

I played Portal first, because this was to me to most 'interesting' new thing in the HL universe. Its a amazing game. While playing it i thought about all sorts of addons like frantic mulitplayer stuff where people must help each other through a level. I remember the days when me and my TFC clan mates, would play till the morning laughing our socks off on some amazing co-op puzzle mods for TFC.

Portal is amazing and i see much potential for the modding community out there, its almost like boxworld in 3D with holes.

Didn't think so myself, can't see how it'd give anything away.

I'll edit it anyway if you want to do the same to the part you quoted :)

EDIT: done

Don’t be put off by the above though. Portal may not be an overly long game, say around three or four hours depending on intelligence, but after you finish the standard game there’s still a wealth of things to do.
does this mean im a genius for finishing it in under 2? :p
i am up to ~5 hours portal playing time according to steam community thingy now tho, portal is the new crack :(

Very much looking forward to community maps for this because the concept is too awesome to end so soon!

Where does one go for fan maps these days? I think the last thing I downloaded was probably They Hunger for HL1...

Garrys Mod is hard at work on maps regularly of all types - check Garry.tv
There's also FPSBanana and Excite Mod to look at too...

Still waiting for my 360 version. I wonder how much portal maps will be on live?? Is there an editior because that would extend its life
CardJoe 12th October 2007, 13:21 Quote
No editor to my knowledge in Xbox version and we don't even know if map packs will be available. It's the main reason I suggest you get the PC version...

Thanks CArdJoe, I needed that song :)
So far I've managed 10 minutes of Ep 2 and I've played through Portal twice.

Still no cake though :(

If i chose what should get an oscar - the Portal end credits would have one.
Actually the curve of gameplay works really well, it stars fun and easy and you race then it hits you with brain aching chaos which also remind you that it's from a twitch history - they you get THE BEST GAME ENDING IN YEARS.
I doff my hat a thousandfold to whoever came up with that. Anyone who hasn't completed the main story mode - do it, you will not regret it at all
demonevs 12th October 2007, 16:45 Quote
I didn't think it was the best ending ever - far from it. Can't see what people have gotten so worked up about it.
It's a novel idea, done before in Prey and other games (prey's was better imo but thats just personal taste).
Just another boss baddie you take apart using the same moves who dies and then you are given a birthday cake. The song at the end is pretty crap as well. Of course it's all imo

Same here, first thing I did when I got the orange box unlocked was play portal, I'm still only about halfway through Episode 2 but I've already played through Portal again with the commentary on and attempted a few of the bonus levels.
