Are they seriously listing enabling vsync by default as a major feature of the DirectX 10 version of the game? Oh deary, deary me.

I think DX10 will have a lot to show us and in the future will really come into its own, but right now it's just too juvinile to be actually useful. Maybe come 2008 things will start to look a bit more attractive.

It was a bug in 1.6.1 (and why we kept testing 1.5.0), as Vsync was intermittent and sometimes even turned itself on even when you'd requested for it to be turned off using -novsync in the command line.

Aye, up to 1.6 played ok. Once I'd put on 1.61 the game stopped loading properly! Patching to 1.7 fixed it though.

What are you trying to say...
EDIT: People would already know about that one, that's why didn't link to it.

So.. you can have an image as a sig then?

:D

edit: blast, my plan is foiled. Yet again.

That's not a sig, a sig is beneath the ----------------- line. That's just IMG tag

I'm saying nothing - it's a shameless plug for those that want to read what we thought about it. :p

Sort of, but it really doesn't take kindly to it.

It will be interesting to see how games perform from the bigger studios like Epic. I'll reserve judgement until there is a game built around the new API. Or more realistically in the near future, a game is produced in which the two API versions are given equal attention during development.

wow i am glad i kept my x1950xtx ! dx9 ftw lol

i will get vista and the second or third generation of dx10 cards tbh.

as some one said earlier, its amazing that anyone thought that 8800gtx could play dx10 adequately.

wait for the 2nd line of cards.

we all know that the 8800 series is great in dx9 though

great article

why do people keep saying the 8800 gtx wont play dx10 well and we shouldnt be surprised? the gtx wasnt apart of this, and based on how well it performs against the gts, id guess the gtx will do fine...

Good news ,if this really poor dx10 performance trend continues, a good explanation will be needed. The improvement in detail is subtle but worthy, however the crushing of framerates is unacceptable.

We are yet to see a dx10 game or dx10 demo thats shows this new API outperform dx9 at equal detail settings, is the problem the fault of early graphics drivers, Vista OS itself or hybrid DX9-10 game design?

There's an interview with Nvidia's head of devrel coming. One of the things that we discussed was performance. :)

hopefully it doesnt involve a

"Hey you know that £400 graphics card you bought which claimed it can do DX10, well by do, it means at crushingly low framerates"
