it's a broken game and you gave it 6!?!?!?!

I hope to God you'll be reviewing Unreal Tournament III both with and without a PhysX card installed. I'm definitely buying UT3, but it might convince me to get a PPU as well. I would certainly get one if they were priced more around the £50 mark.

We will be, don't worry about that :)

Yea, I think a 6 is a bit too high. it's a problem I commonly see in BT reviews, there's hardly any variation. Everything gets a 6-10.
Bindibadgi 13th May 2007, 14:47 Quote
That's because most things are average to good. We generally work with manufacturers that have got things right. In the same way read this: http://www.trustedreviews.com/editorial/2007/04/30/A-Question-of-Integrity/p1 because it explains how the industry has changed.

If we waste our time with an equal amount of crap, you won't buy it, the people who make it don't get anything out of it other than the obvious: that it's a poor product. If something is 50% right, 5/10, then you wouldn't buy it, whereas 70% is "average" and you'd be more inclined to, but it's still average.

EDIT: After editorial consultation and your points taken into consideration it's been dropped to a 5.

I'll accept responsibility for not picking up on the connection between Joe's words and the score he gave the game. I'm burning the candle at both ends trying to get a certain graphics card reviewed in time for launch.
CardJoe 13th May 2007, 15:19 Quote
Though really I should accept responsibility. On reading through my notes again, it's obvious that I was giving a score out based on the promise of PPU in a game environment, not judging the game on it's own merits as I should have done. We talked over the scoring and have dropped the score by a point to bring it back into line.

Apologies on the error :S

Yeah, if you where rating the PPU rather than the game on a PPU then the first score might have been ok.

Damn I can almost taste that R600 release date!

14th isnt it?

yeah that game looks crap lol flying boxes... woo
Mathmarauder 13th May 2007, 19:07 Quote
Even if you rate just the game its not that great. The throwing boxes thing was only fun for a little bit, I wanted to do something more with it. What would get me to buy a ppu and this game is have a CTF mode where the forts are destructible and respawn after a while, to me that just screams fun.

But in reality the novelty wore off pretty fast.

Torn the cloth yet? That was the only thing that made Joe and I go "WOOooooooo". But yea, it wore off pretty quick.

AGEIA can't really pin its hopes on UT3 since, although UE3 does incorporate support for PhysX, UT3 doesn't use it for anything game-altering. It's just eye-candy.
leexgx 13th May 2007, 22:15 Quote
did the game work any better on an 8800GTS/GTX ?
Wwhat 13th May 2007, 23:48 Quote
I don't like the black&amber of the game, although the advantage is that you could play it on a herculus display from the 80's I guess.
completemadness 14th May 2007, 17:29 Quote
hmmm i thought this game was just crippling my computer (maybe due to having 2x 1680x1050 screens running) but it appears that it may partly be the games fault itself, i didn't realise it was that demanding

By the way, is if possible to get PPU code on 1 core and the game on the other, ATM its all stuck on 1 core, but does dual core in this game make a difference ?
