You can patch it to run the AI in multiplayer but the devs don't like it (it generates lots of false error reports). It isn't that polished and has an odd bug that causes a large amount of lag once it hits the unit limit. It works, but it's currently no substitute for playing against a human opponent.

AFAIK, the devs plan to make a full set of editors available with good support for mods. There are already a few custom maps out, notably this 81x81km one. Buggy, but great fun :)

He mean's Total Annihilation; the unofficial prequel to this.
The game certainly looks impressive, and the worldwide zoom is certainly different. I really hope it lives up to the expectations of TA, which was and indeed still is such a colossal game. I think TA has to be one of the few games from that era that can still make my PC lag , so im guessing its sequel is going to need some pretty beefy stuff to run it :(

awesome game btw starcraft was and still is the best rts around !
damn i miss TA. since i 2 years ago formatted my computer and my original cd was broken (lotsa scrathes) i've been waiting it to either become abandomeware or a new version being released, and soon my thirst will be quenched by this massive grafical updated version :D.
the only 2 RTS ive played and deemed great is StarCraft and Warcraft3. hopefully this will quench the thirst.
Did you ever try the Kohan Series? Warhammer? Ive been playihng RTS since TA and I thought Kohan and War hammer were better that SC or WCIII. ( for warhammer it doesnt get really good till Dark Crusade imo).. Im d/l the SC game as I am typing this. After running the demo a bit I decided to take the plunge.

No not really, since that implies micro management, but with even more units, which this is not, it's macro management.
This isn't just TA with a pretty new face there have been some nice changes made, it does play similarly to TA, but sufficiently different.
