What, the game? Or...?

That was a damn good review. Seems like a good game, I might get it when I complete Darwinia in the next year or so :)

Plug the plug on your internets and find out.

It shows up as giving main server messages on the bottom RHS of the screen, so Im assuming it talks a fair amount.

Bolded the possible problem. That, or Defcon's server is so hammered, that it's like a big DDoS.

This game is just begging to be played on a projector screen, with lots of whirring mainframe tape drives round the edge of the room :)

Oh i love this game. the demo is fantasic... will buy it tomarrow.

THey had a message about the internet servers being down due to overwellming demand. and that they are fixing them. The gmae may get a little "old" but once you start using more stratigy and multipul players that goes away fast... Its like Chess with hand grenades.

Surely this is crying out to have a PC mod made for it, it would be so cool.

I may have to try the Demo when I finish work. Looks to be a very good and addictive game. Also could be a game my dad will enjoy when I tell him about it. Risk is his life.

I can safely say this game is AWESOME!!!!

And yes on a project of 75" greatness it looks so superb, sitting in teh dark, with the base turned up

*insert evil laugh here*

Probably going to buy this, it looks great.
Another of the great cheap games on Steam is Uplink. Such an awesome, addictive game, but it still doesn't seem to get much attention.
DougEdey 30th September 2006, 20:18 Quote
Pretty annoying this.

I love the demo, but can't get the game because Steam won't take Maestro and none of the usual stores are going to be stocking it.

EDIT

Introversion.co.uk accepts my card (£10 aswell :D)

I'm gonna get this, but I reckon I'll wait till the bugs have died down. Going on this thread it seems a few people are having some rather serious problems atm :(
DougEdey 30th September 2006, 21:38 Quote
I think it was just the standard 24 hour surge that all steam games get from preloading.

I played it fine today.

yah no bugs or slowdown on this side.

Gotta ask, as this game doesn't appear particularly graphically demanding, would it run on integrated (all I have available at the moment)? Lego Star Wars did at least, and that was a blast. Just have to ask so I don't end up wasting money until I have real hardware available to me again.
DougEdey 1st October 2006, 08:43 Quote
Look back on the last page, min requirements were posted.

Hmm.. He must seen altered ( US government's ) version of the movie ???

Still believing he is playing a video game, Broderick merrily launches nukes at the Russians (who else?), oblivous to the real-world crisis he has just triggered as US Army Generals choke on their cigars at the news of the Russian retaliation. WarGames is a great film and I would recommend you rent a copy if you haven't seen it. Of course, for fans of the film, it is now possible to experience it for yourself by playing Defcon.

Screw this, I'm poor but who cares.
This game is awesome.

We really need a bit-tech server.
DougEdey 1st October 2006, 16:16 Quote
U don't get servers, just hosting on ppls.

I will play asmuch as poss. Add me on MSN if ppl want (in profile)

Sys Requirements: You need a Geforce2. Thats an old card. However integrated video is often the pits. If I recall correctly GF2 has hardware T&L (Transform and lighting), so your integrated video should at least have that. There are various options in game to turn down the settings.

While not incredibly demanding, the game still is no visual slouch. It's got a great visual style, much like how Darwinia did, and it does use some GPU muscle to make it happen.

Right now: The master servers are a bit overloaded, so it's hard to join a game (you have better luck hosting your own). The server data is usually outdated, so that when you join an empty game, it's already full by the time you connect. Should die down in a few days though.

It's still entertaining to play the computer, and good practice to learn basic usage of all the units, etc.
