7 seems pretty high for charging £20 for a partially completed tech demo. I've played GT a few times and just find the lack of damage model removes it so far from reality it feels totally void and stale. How can it be a simulation when your cars are invincible? Simply on those two points it shold get scored down. And no matter how people wrap it up, £20 for a tech demo is bloody cheeky.
I personally think Polyphony have done a top notch job, but I'm not going to buy this. I've been a fan of the series since the days of 937bhp purple race modded R33s, and still play GT4 on my PS3. Hell, I even got a Japanese logon for the PSNetwork called "Mr Sparkle" so I could download the Prologue demo, but having played the full GT5:Prologue myself, I'm just going to wait for the full title - mainly because of the lack of tracks.
Saying that though, I didn't get GT4:Prologue either.
I thought the review was fair and balanced.
I bought this game for £18 and its my first experience of the Gran Turismo brand of racers. Whilst the graphics are stunning, Im afraid the actual gameplay is kinda boring after a while.
The lack of damage does impact gameplay, and reduces your incentive to drive like a real car driver. One of the tracks I played was painfully dull, and simple in comparison to the others.
In hindsight Im not sure I would want to buy it again if I had a choice, and I wont be buying GT5 proper. But I do understand why some people love this game. Coming from a 360, I have to say the visuals eclipse anything Ive seen on the 360.

be informed before making false statements.
In an interview a very short time ago (on IGN and other sites I think) it was stated they will be adding damage to Prologue as soon as fall. Where did you get your info that they will make you pay for extra cars? Im not sure if this was specifically stated or it was impliead or whatever but Polyphony said they hate making customers pay for extra content. So maye thats why we get Prologue. It gives them extra money which in turn gives us extra content for free.

Ye I'm coming around to a 7, although still bordering on an 8 :p
little bit disappointed that the lack of damage has been made such a big deal. If you want the car to look like piece of ****, buy one of the messing around racing games. The GT series is more about learning racing lines, controlling your speed and skill. You want to ram cars? Play GTA.
Shadow 101 the reasoning behind damage is that, while GT as a racing sim has always been about the driving skill, applicable damage due to poor driving also contributes to the "racing sim" tagline. Although GT penalizes you enough for poor driving (try winning a race by bouncing off cars in a GT game) damage to a car also affects the way it drives and handles. I can't remember if you did suffer tire damage (i'm pretty sure) from constant driving nothing else ever really happens to the car.
That aside, GT has already done well without car damage for 4 iterations so this sudden desire for car damage and expecting a drop in score without it to me is without merit. I'de rather they stick to what works, than make a worse game due to car damage rendering the game unplayable. And assuming most of us here aren't professional racers I don't see myself having fun everytime I get put out of a race due to a slip up in a tight turn in GT.
Bit-tech's claim that Forza Motorsport 2's vehicle models are on par with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, I found, was an utter joke. Forza's relative proportions of vehicle assets are completely off the ground. For example, the R32 GT-R's headlights are enormously oversized and the car's oversized width should be as obvious as a freight train ploughing through your house. A motoring aficionado would be driven to insanity by the off-the-wall inaccuracies in enthusiast motoring that Forza is full to the brim with; which is why the game can never be taken as a serious, mature representation of spirited motoring.

Heh you guys beat me to it... it's a First on a lot of degree courses...
Anyway it's good that lots of people are willing to pay to beta test the game for the rest of us :)
Thanks guys!
I probably won't buy this but I'm definitely gonna buy the full game whenever the heck it comes out. I hope they have a greater variety of American cars this time around. We got 450 different versions of Skylines in GT4 and for American cars we got like...'vettes, Mustangs, some classic muscle and a pick-up truck or something. Maybe I wanna drive a Ford Escort? Maybe I want to take an Astro Van for a spin around Laguna?! Ever think of that, Polyphony? Might say those cars are boring, but there are A LOT of boring Euro and Japanese cars in the past GT games. Just give me some more damn American production cars that aren't flagships like GTO or Mustang. Sure, they might suck! But just give me the option!

A lot of those cars might not fit the spirited driving motif, or hold any historic automotive significance. Hence their exclusion.
You've got to love the fact that someone zero0ne thinks that having great graphics makes a game worth 8 points haha! Well I think COD4 looks amazing give it 10 points and be done with it! Hmm I think you'd be slightly peeved if bit is your source for reviews, you go out and get the game....duh duh... wow it looks amazing, oh wait there's no existent game play etc etc
Wait sorry Bindibadgi, you've said it all already, just read that comment and thought wth. In my person opinion it's nice to have a change of reviewer as well! :)
Well, there's nothing like stirring up a bit of controversy!
I'm aware that Forza vs Gran Turismo is a flamewar waiting to happen, I'm never going to change peoples' opinions when their minds are so set on something.
I reviewed GT5 Prologue as it comes: as game offered for sale to the general public. The price is almost a moot point - should you expect half a game because you pay half as much?
This is my review, and it contains my opinions. I'm not telling you what to think, I'm telling you what *I* think. That's what a review is.
The game does feel like a tech demo and it does have its limitations. The lack of damage is a factor. I know it's never appeared in previous GT games, but why does that mean it doesn't have to be in this one? The PS3's architecture has more than enough power to calculate physics-based damage models. And even if you don't adjust the graphical model of the car (to keep the manufacturers happy), you can still adjust the underlying physical model of the car. Yes, I'm aware that a patch is supposed to be coming in the next few months, but seriously how many people will still be playing by then?
As a tech demo it's good, but as a game it's flawed.

GT is a console seller, no doubt about it - I'll be buying a PS3 for GT5, no questions asked. It'd be a bad move (for Sony) to release this on other platforms.

I don't think you'll be alone there :) It's just a shame we've got to wait until next year.

Agreed totally, that's a big shame as it would be great to have a full game in my hands. That's why a lot of people will buy the Prologue version this time around, whereas a lot of us skipped GT4 Prologue

It's good to see all the differing opinions in this thread, a lot of which are good critiques of the game :)
I got GT5 with a new PS3 and Las Vegas 2 and a HDMI cable for £300, so I wasn't too miffed about that price :)
