You do it on veteran by any chance, because that certainly did'nt happen for me. So I hide like a girl.

It has nasty crosshairs, the guns all fire in the same way, and in the first mission I played I was carrying about 500 rounds of ammunition, and could reload my gun from totaly empty in about 1.5 seconds, not to mention regenerative health.
The whole thing strikes me as yet another CoD2 clone, just in a different setting. Endless enemies, no satisfaction from killing any of them, incredibly unrealistic, and just all round console crap.
It's a real shame, because the original CoD and UO were both great. But since then it's just been a stream of crap, and this is no different. I'm off back to play Crysis again.

I agree so much except that CoD2 was original in the sense of that and I liked it except for constant spawning enemies but they just copy to new places.
Having played through the single player quite a bit more (I'm on the marine mission where you start off with a helo-mounted nade launcher), I'm actually finding myself no longer trusting bit-tech game reviews.
How this pile of utter tripe could get 9/10 is just beyond me. At first I thought it was just that slaughtering countless respawning enemies isn't fun, but then, crysis has huge numbers of enemies and that manages to remain fun. The game is as linear as it gets, which is definitely a negative. It just feels incredibly pointless to play it though, and I'm finding myself playing it more because I feel I should then because I'm deriving any sort of enjoyment or satisfaction from doing so (for I've recieved none whatsoever). It's not as if I can even understand that other people would enjoy it, but that it's just not for me. This is just a crap game. The graphics and slight cinematic feel to some of the mission intros and outros, coupled with the slightly innovative but still boring vehicle parts of the missions are the only redeeming factors I can find. And there's a lot to be redeemed here.
Coming from Crysis, a game that was rated as being equally good to CoD4, I'm amazed at how rubbish this is, and I honestly don't think I can trust a review system that gives atrocious games like this the same rating as very solid and enjoyable games like Crysis. I would have given this game a 4-6 rating, and only that high because it at least seems stable.
edit: Having re-read that it perhaps seems a little harsh on you joe, it's not meant to be an attack. I just think this game is so rubbish, it concerns me that in a month or two a game can come out that you guys rate as 9, and I won't know whether it's as good as something like crysis, or other games you've rated 9 (generally great games) - or this, which I think of as pure rubbish.

Thats your opinion, I'm loving the game. so it's not perfect, the spawning in singleplayer can get a bit annoying and the ai is a bit daft at times, but it's got an awesome story imo and the gameplay and fast action makes up for its failings
I did the beta in Crysis, and I enjoy COD4 over crysis, some might call me crazy, but at least COD4 isn't just a graphics engine tech demo
but at least COD4 isn't just a graphics engine tech demo
Crysis has as good or a better story, the gameplay is far more open, is actually enjoyable to play, and still manages to look better than CoD4. It seems a fair number of people do actually like CoD4, but I find it utterly baffling - and if anyone wants to try to explain to me what's enjoyable about this game, I'd be curious to find out.
edit: Well, having discussed this with Da Dego, despite the fact that I still think the game is rubbish, I can understand that some people really do get something out of it that I simply don't get. Which is a shame, because the game he describes to me is a game I'd like to play. It's just not what I'm playing when I play CoD4. Anyway, in future, I would request that people like myself, for whom a game like this feels hollow and arcadey (reminded me of games I played aged 11 in the arcades, tbh) - are noted in the review. So we know not to spend time and money on things like this.
I don't think the two can really compare that well to be honest. One is a sandbox, the other is a garden path. One is open, the other is closed. They are both great games, but in different ways and for different people. I enjoyed both.

Yup. Moi aussi. Much like I wasn't really terribly thrilled about either Bioshock or Half-Life 2: Episode II... but I can see why many people would like them, and I can respect that. ;)
So far I've only really enjoyed the Chernobyl mission, the rest is just realisation that the game revolves around the player, as in COD2. What I mean by this is that:
1. Enemies will spawn for eternity unless you advance (and then they'll follow you), it doesn't matter what the rest of the group does.
2. Enemies will target you - not any of your team members.
3. All of your team mates seem to be bulletproof for the most part (SAS)
I also hate those bloody dogs - I've never been able to melee attack them, I ALWAYS die.
EDIT: Now finished the game, and I can only add one other mission that I enjoyed - the one at the end of the credits. Its really annoying that the enemies keep on respawning until you advance further.
How you can rate this game the same as Crysis is beyond me. This game is a definite 7/10.
I honestly think this is the best most enjoyable game I have ever played.
I don't think 'epically short' comment earlier is fair at all. I played on hardest from the off, so I guess my experience might have been longer due to the amount of time I spent 'dead', but the overall game length felt pretty good to me.
Just a fantastic game. I *really* hope there will be more of the same, be it expansions or [well made!] mods/missions.
Nice review too. Although, as you suggested, I didn't read it before getting the game. ;)

Given the forward direction the series is taking, maybe COD 5 will be called DOOM 4?
I'm stuck on that mission too, I just can't manage to snipe 6 of them in different directions within 2 seconds.. O.o
The claymores held em off for a whole.. 30secs.. It's a really frustrating level on Veteran
