I don't think more then 50% of members have DX10 cards, why not include some tests with like a 7900 and some of the ATI cards as well which are DX9 only but still fairly recent
I hear ya, but in the interests of time, one had to cut off somewhere. We will be using BioShock for our graphics reviews though and in the mid-range reviews at the very least, we'll be including previous generation cards like the X1950 XT and 7900 GS.
Well, technically there were two but given that Tim tested no fewer than TEN cards, I think we can forgive the fact that owners of 18-month old graphics cards or older were kinda overlooked. I'm sure 7900 owners have a good feel of which mid-range 86xx series card theirs lines up with

similar story here. but i call 20FPS to be playble, 30FPS to be luxury. the game defaults to High, i set Actor detail to low, and turn off Vsync. then kept everything else.
running around 20 (lowest i've seen was 16, multiple spicer and 1 big daddy all with water and flame everywhere) on my X1650pro 256MB AGP hammering the poor slightly overclocked Sempron 2800+ (1.6Ghz to 1.8Ghz, Sempron 3100+ speed)

Actor Detail: This option can be set to Low, Medium or High. It doesn't actually relate to just the details on actors (i.e. characters), rather it is supposed to determine the overall level of detail in the environment. As it is lowered, 'decoration objects' and some effects will be removed. However in testing I have not noticed any real difference from changing this setting. Also note that you will need to restart the game each time you alter this setting for the changes to come into effect.

Dang, I dunno how I'd play the game at 20fps... it seems quite jerky
God damn I can see myself really loving this game, bought it at launch.
Unfortunately it keeps randomly crashing, and I have so far managed to finish the medical area after the millionth crash. Updated graphics, sound and chipset drivers, made sure the game was upto date, seems like a lot of other ppl have similiar issues with it on the pc (esp. nvidia users). I figured I'm going to leave it a good few weeks for them to iron out any problems before I delve back into it, 5 minute bursts is just no fun :(
What really pisses me off is that my grandad (yes my grandad) is well ahead of me in the game on his xbox 360 (yes he has a 360 lol)
Well, I have the game, I'm impressed by the game, I enjoy it a lot but there are minor graphics flaws I just don't want to see nowadays. Let me show you what I mean. And that's happening quite often, at least for me.
Anyone else think this game is absolutely amazing?!
Aside from all the 'activation' groans from people, this has got to be one of the best/exciting/good to look at games i have EVER played. best ~£25 i ever spent.

how do you think my laptop (see sig) would fair at 1200x800, on XP pro... what setting likely with say a min of 30fps... not really sure where my gpu fits in compared to any of those ones tested lol

I think you'll have to run that on minimum, even then you may not see a stable 30fps.
Does the PC version have surround sound? The one thing about playing it on the 360 is the 5.1 audio baked in, and audio is pretty important in this game...

Hey Wil, how the devil are you? How's the start-up coming along?
On the sound, surround is obviously supported but Creative's Vista drivers are still fubar so it kind of depends what soundcard you have.

Hey Wil, good to see you still popping by - thanks!
It does have support for surround sound - there's a whole blurb in the back of the manual saying the game is optimised for EAX/X-Fi. However, given the state of Creative's Vista drivers, I'd hold my breath.
The good thing is that there is a Creative offer tied in with BioShock:

anyway, i tested the demo today. looks like a good game. I won't be getting it yet, though. it's just doesn't look good on my x700 GFX card...
(x700 gfx card, P4 3,2ghz and a gig or ram.) so in order to play it properly i need a new computer, and i don't think my economy will handle that at the moment... :(

simply spend £100 and upgrade your graphics card to x1950pro. you'd be able to play the game maxed out without any problem at all.
It's a good game - but not playable. I installed the game last week, activated it and, entered the cumbersome CD key, and had to play with the DVD in the drive at all times. You would think this would assure 2k Games that this was a legit version of the game that I spent a good half-hundred on at Best Buy. Wrong.... I couldn't play for 4 days because of work, and when I attempted to launch the game today the EXE file is missing. Attempted to run setup again, and it asked me "why" I want to uninstall this product.

basicly, noting much at all

Settings: All max, "Force global lighting" off, 1280x1024, no AA, AF ?

Just my 2 cents.
lol, a grandad has a 360? my grandad just plays Solitaire on the PC.
Thanks for this.

The good thing is that there is a Creative offer tied in with BioShock:
Buy an X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion Series or X-Fi Gamer Fatal1ty Professional Series card and get a free Fatal1ty Gaming Headset: http://europe.creative.com/promotion/bioshock
Obviously, this isn't a good offer if you've already got an X-Fi, but it's tempting if you don't. :)
BTW, BioShock 360 on a big TV with 5.1 surround is truly stunning - it's one reason why I bought both X360 and PC versions :D
damm, i think ill wait to i buy a desktop but that could be 6 months plus away :'(
it's already up for download on many torrent sites

Maybe i should consider it, then... Would be great to get a DX10 based system, but i really don't think it's worth it yet.
