What specs were you running on and what kind of rates were you getting?

I know it's a beta, but I like to compare beta rates to production,

Joe had an 8800 GTS (not sure whether it was a 320 or a 640 - can check later) and was playing the game pretty well at 1280x1024x2 with relatively high details.

I've been playing at 1680x1050 4xAA max details on a single 8800 GTX and if I've played at work I've had 2x8800 Ultra at 2560x1600 4xAA with max details. :)

I'll be doing some performance comparisons between the 8800 GTS 320, GTS 640, GTX and 2900 XT later I think... I'm not sure whether to include performance comparisons in reviews at the moment though since it's beta and performance can change between now and the final version.

That'll be a good test for you then ;)

It looks fantastic pity you have to download it off torrent bloody pain in the ass :(

Ran the benchmark program from options at detail "high" resolution 1280x1024 and got a fps of between 10-35 Average 17 (ouch)
Running an 8800GTS 320mb , C2D 6600 (stock) , 2Gb ram

P.S Ingame name is Bungle1973 if you fancy a game.

Someday I'll set a camera up in the office, hopefully before Crysis or Bioshock, to record Tim and Joe playing new games. Limbs go everywhere and strange pseudo-orgasmic noises can be heard as they discover something new and cool.

"OMFG IS THAT A NUKE!! OO!!!! AAHHHH AHAHHHHH MY GOOOOODDDD!!!"

For the record Joe's 8800GTS is a 320MB version.

And when Tim says 1280x1024x2 he means dual monitors. i.e. effective resolution of 2560 x 2048 (although one was always in the top down 'map' view so is going to be rendering less detail)

And Bindi is right, the stampede of people running over to see the nuke etc was just hilarious. I think the unanimous silence after we saw it before anyone could speak said it all!

I wonder if the gameplay plays at a slower pace like the SupCom, or quicker, like C&C? From the review, it seems like a modern day version of Company Of Heroes, which means I can't wait!

More COH than SupCom... it's very quick (most servers are 15 mins per battle at the moment I think) and you control a few units at a time rather than a massive army :)

I was in the closed beta (and am now in the open one automatically) and between patches 3 and 4 there was a 23% FPS increase AND they added the terrain deformation.

Pretty impressive for a beta.

The nuclear strike is the sinlge most impressive thing I've ever seen in a video game, easily matching anything I've seen thus far in Crysis.

Nice review, I am downloading now from FilePlanet. :)

One tip I would mention, is to not leave your units in the same spot for too long. Lost track of the number of times I've been distracted with a battle and come back to find my other units bombed back into the stone age. It's a very fluid game much like Company Of Heroes. Need to have your wits about about you at all times.

This is a game that really benefits from DX10.

Just played the beta on my system (X800, C2D E6600, 2Gb) and it looks like ass.

Are there big performance differences between XP (DX9) and Vista (DX10) and how big are the graphical differences? Do I really have to install Vista to fully enjoy this beauty? ;)
