I mean, look at how many people liked generals, and that was possibly the worst C&C game ever made (Except maybe renegade - but that wasn't RTS)
And i bet most of the people who went to test C&C3 were people who liked generals
I highly adoubt that. Generals did suck, However Zero Hour wasn't imo. Still play it to this day sometimes, but you have to put in the back of your mind that it wasn't really C&C, it was just based around it.
C&C3 is the REAL C&C. NOD, GDI etc. It's the real deal.
im getting about 15 fps on my x1950pro and 3500+ running dual screens on medium settings 1 @ 1280x1024 othre at 1024x768 and its very playable. however gets about 5fps at later stages. which is not im going to play with turning down the settings a little tonight (but as someone mentioned it is definately cpu bound) but i refuse to only use 1 screen. the secondary monitor is what sets this game apart from the rest (well the most notable thing) im going to try and get as far as i can with the UEF before it becomes unplayable but i feel i may have to wait till i upgrade in a few months to play this game in full

As my question hasn't been answered I'll just ask it again:
What do you use to measure FPS. Fraps won't work with Sup Com for me. Even though I'm sure frame rates are okay for me I'd really like to see how far I can go. :)
nice review. i enjoyed the Tenacious D references in the section titles :p
it plays quite poorly on my system (Athlon64 3000+, 1GB RAM, X800XT) but its playable with a unit cap of 250.. I'm definitely going to upgrade soon, as I can't see myself not playing this for a while.
I've found that it if you have a dual core and you play with just players, it works fine, but if you play with 2 AIs, it slows down a bit though it's fine with 1 AI. However, if you have a QuadCore, it'll happily support up to 3 AIs. It sticks each AI on an individual core methinks

wouldnt it be nice if you could distribute the AI in a multiplayer game
say you're playing 3 humans in co-op vs 3 AI, have 1 AI running on each computer, would certainly help performance quite a bit in situations like that
It might do that, I haven't really tested it, but I do know when I played with my brother on LAN, with him having a single core, the AI was solely run off my computer
anybody looking for a few more FPS can try this (though it really sucks if you have to do it)
in the shortcut to supcom, add /nosound to the end of the target field.
this gave me an extra 10-15FPS on my AMD +2500
also if you want to run a performance test, the call is /perf
(try it with /nosound and without, you'll see the diff :))
I really wish they could make it so that you could turn off all sound effects (guns firing, explosions etc, but leave on the UI like sounds like "Strategic missile fired" etc)
one more thing you can try is hit the ~ key, then type ren_decals (it will turn off all the pretty stuff under buildings and such; though if you are running in low fidelity, it doesn't do anything)
there are some other tweaks for dual cores, like making sure you have the one MS patch, (For intel) and making sure to run the AMD optimizer thing for their X2s.
though from my reading, those patches may/may not have an effect for you.
(my rooamtes EE6600 + 2GB ram + the asus supreme mobo was running sluggishly when i was pushing 800 units and it was a 2 v 2 against the supreme AI, and they probably had 400-600 units each. My T2 aeon gunship rush of 200 was just enough to take out 3 T3 artillery and 1 mavor :/)
EDIT: i was playing with all low settings too...
I have waited for this game along time. And now it is here and it is....
Boring, bland, derivative and uninspired.
OK, the dual monitors is great, nice advancement there. But the game play is nothing special at all, completely expected and unoriginal. Graphics are average, again nothing special. Unit design, again boring and uninspired.
But the biggest thing for me is simply this:
Supreme Commander is not fun to play. It feels like work. That is not what I want out of a game.
I hope the demo for C&C 3 that is waiting at home for me tonight will be better.
Yea, I'm finding supcom to be rather boring. I thought the massive unit scale would make for some sweet tactics, but meh. It's the same thing over and over and over

it looked good, and it does look good graphically, but i just don't find it interesting
I guess it just doesn't fit every ones tastes, that's fair enough tbh
ran fine for me on a 3.4 P4 with 7800GTX in SLI at 3840 by 1024(TripleHead2G0)
Me versus 3 AI , at one point we had over 2500 units between us(I had 950)
This seems as good a thread as any to post this. Can anyone comment on how this game plays over the net. I'm seriously thinking of getting this little beasty, but my concern is that the online play will be suffering due to the size of the game.

I have attempted to play this with my freinds online via a VPN (hamachi) 3 player was just about doable with some lag near end of game but still playable, 4 player started to lag about half way, was playable but choppy, 6 player was toomuch lag to near the begining of the game, starts off fast then after about 20min, it starts to crawl a bit, untill 1 of my freinds internet eventually dropped out.
This was using my pc as host (specs in sig below) on a 868kbps upload and 2760kbps download internet connection.
My freinds however are not as fortunate as I to own a gforce 8800gtx or a dual core cpu, so there is the chance that the game was maybe toomuch for there pc's to handle, even if the settings down low, rather than maybe the internet.
Guess will know for sure one day when get to play with someone else whom has a pc beasty enough.
