One question: What do you mean, when you are talking about a "monster PC" is needed to run the game smoothly? Can you tell us the system specs? Thanks a lot!
Quote r4tch3t 8th February 2007, 09:03
Probably needing a 8800 series to run it at a decent frame rate. But this is still beta code, so optimisations will come.

What were you running it on though? I'm sure that you managed to get a good frame rate at 1600x1200 and that would be a good performance indication...

Well, the build we played specifically asked for 2GB of RAM. We found the sweet spot for our system was:

Core 2 Extreme X6800
GeForce 8800 GTX
4GB RAM
X-Fi Fatal1ty

This gave us a decent frame rate at 1280x1024, 0xAA 8xAF.

So, you can see why we hope the performance gets sorted out before launch :D

Finally, played this the end of Summer 2004 at the EXCEL in London. Was great then lol.

lol thats pretty much the absolute top of the tree, i bet even most popular reviews sites dont have that kind of rig just lying around !

The special effects looked impressive, however the textures on the other hand in some cases looked very very unimpressive

I like the idea of Deus Ex style again though :)

I can't wait

Sounds a bit much for what you get graphically... 4GB RAM??? I doubt you ate into anything over 1536MB unless you are running Vista. An 8800GTX should perform better than that, hell Oblivion which is the worst coded game in a long time runs at 1920x1200 with AA and AF on that kind of setup...

It's an unoptimised game - it's basically finished and they're optimising before finalising system specifications.

Would you be pissed off if I told you (Tim won't he's too nice to admit it) that it was just some parts we had lying around :)

Nah, no-one would be pissed off.

Out of interest and totaly unrelated to the above, where specifically is BitHQ located and do you perchance hire a night watch(I can't even type night watch man as one word now? Swear filter madness!) man or any have any form of electronic surveilance?
Quote Bindibadgi 8th February 2007, 18:10
Yes, yes we do.

Our offices are here in, uh, the Scottish Highlands.

Brrrr!

Ouch, they better do a good job... Otherwise this will be added to my list of games that failed (but are still horribly popular for some reason).

I was sure you are based in/near Bedfordshire...

I want a BETA key please :D

Nice write up. I have been following the Russian community @ stalker-portal.ru closely and everybody is pretty excited about this game.

One question:

How does the combat feel? From videos a lot of it seems very chaotic and fast, with quick cover-run-out-guns-blazing-Rambo-style. I am worried that this might ruin the "survival" part of this game.

That looks fab, can't wait to see the final version.

Quick typo I spotted though- page 2, will?
