I'd almost kill for a System Shock remake. Methinks the Doom 3 engine would be well-suited for the task.

Meanwhile, I'll just watch the CD intro on repeat!

Please fix the Metal Gear Solid part, like others have already said several times, it has been remade to NGC and has pretty much the same level of gameplay and graphics as MGS2, and on top of that, it's a brilliant remake!

LBA deserves a sequel so bad.

A re-hash of Deus Ex really needs to be done by someone, somewhere. I personally think the Source engine is perfect for it.

Couldn't have put it better, the sequel was horrible in every way. Bad voice acting, bad level design, too much loading, graphical glitches, horrible story, way too short, totally lacking a skill system, the whole "universal ammo" thing was lame, and so were the augmentations. I hate every part of the sequel.

Transport Tycoon. Awesome game. Theres a remake floating around somewhere
Quote DXR_13KE 22nd January 2007, 16:34
i only ask for deus ex and mechwarrior!!!!

deus ex 2 sucked to much!!!!! and ion storm died afterwards....... with the entire franchise.

another game i would like to remaster is: ngen racing.... i know very few if no one knows it, it is about racing with airoplanes, like grand turismo with fighter jets, it was fast, it was beautiful, it was great, you could tune the plane like you did in grand turismo but when you put a new part in it i changes the airplane in the exterior, like when you put vectored trust the vertical tail wing or wings disappear. i wish my PS still worked :( .

Bring back Doom :D

Man i remember wasting hundreds of hours on those games, i completed doom 1, and the original Doom 2 (without all the extra packs)
Ive even replayed them on the emulators, ah such fun :D
There is nothing quite as satisfying as pure blasting fun

Does anyone remember this level of doom 2 (or was it ultimate doom ?) (sorry for the bad pictures, the doom emulators don't do screenshots, no apologies for the poor graphics though :P)

It took me like 3 days to do that level, taking chunks out each day :p

Sheesh, am i the only bloody one to have liked Thief 3? Damn game always ran fine for me, no superflous loading,or crap like that. Deus Ex: Invisible War on the other hand... yarf.
Quote airchie 22nd January 2007, 16:54
OMFG, so many good games getting mentioned here! :D

For those of you looking to play some of these old games on your bad-ass C2D rigs, there is hope.

Abandonia + DOSBox = :)

For those of you who loved Transport Tycoon (or have never tried it and want to), there is a remastering of sorts called Open TTD. :)
Works really well and cost me tens of hours recently when I got re-addicted all over again... :D

Downloading Syndicate now... :D

Sonic the Hedgehog (first) was maybe the most memorable game of my childhood.

Keep the physics and gameplay the same but update the graphics, please.

Tomb Raider 1 was also pretty damn great.
Half-Life 1? It has some better gameplay and AI than Half-Life 2.
Quote phuzz 22nd January 2007, 17:35
I guess the remake of Settlers 2 is what we'd hope for for most of these games. 3D-ified graphics, a couple of bug fixes, better sound and no other changes at all.

Perfect :)

Whilst I really understand your column, I can't help but feel that if I were given the choice between the game studios working hard on new and exciting titles that I haven't yet played, being ever more creative - or rehashing old games that have been played, conquered and enjoyed previously - I think I'd choose the former.
Quote g3n3tiX 22nd January 2007, 17:38
fallout 2 also brings back memories...
and I miss Full throttle although SCUMM runs it well ! aaah the biker fights..
warcraft 2 was so good...
Quote Ziggy_man 22nd January 2007, 17:39

Oh yeah, LBA was a fantastic game, one of my favourites of all time. I would love to see a decent remake.

Thirded, Mechwarrior was part adventure, part first person mech combat (with 3 additional mech pilots to command), part trading (negotiating mission prices and buying & selling mechs), part diplomacy (be less concerned about who your missions are for than who they are against). It had soo much replay value too

Another game I'd like to see professionally redone is Star Trek: Birth of the Federation. Awesome game with great replay value but Very VERY much in need of an interface and AI update.

The problem with remakes though is that they often miss the mark. The original Pirates! was a brilliant game but the remake, while almost an exact conversion, felt so repetitive - As someone once said, "Nostalgia ain't what it used to be." I think our expectations have gone up a LOT.

FULL THROTTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE 7th GUEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PHANTASMAGORIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

along with any old school fighter game from the Dos days, Pc's really lack fighting games like DoA, MvsC2, etc.

How about Interstate 76? Was an awesome game at the time (or so I thought)

How about it, eh? Just think of it - same mechanics and games play, but dress it up in Eve Online graphics. No mucking about with the basic premis. Trade, fight, dabble with some constructive raids on other shipping (What officer? Me? A Pirate... Perish the thought, me harty...) All the while working toward becoming Elite.

THE best fps game ever was Heretic (not to be confused with the POS Heretic II). Based on the original Doom engine but with superior graphics and atmosphere.

What about LBA2? In my opinion it was better than the first. Some how they managed to put so much atmosphere into that game. I still remember loads of bits from that game I enjoyed it so much.
